Dogs on a Sun holiday?

Me and OH have been on a few Sun holidays but have never taken a dog. This time we decided we would like to. I looked at what sites allow dogs and even emailed the site we were the most interested in (Hoburne Bashley in the New Forest) to ask if they took dogs. They replied that they did.

I must admit I didn't mention in my email that I was intending to stay on a Sun holiday but I didn't think I needed to. I was happy when I managed to book that particular park for October.

Yesterday I received the paperwork through from the park and it says dogs are not allowed!! I am assuming that they mean because it is a Sun holiday as dogs are definitely allowed on the site.

I will have to phone them but just thought I would ask if anyone knows what the position is with regard to dogs? I know if we definitely cannot take our dog OH will not want to go so unless we can sell the holiday we will lose out

Maybe you've been put into pet-free accomodation by mistake. Best phone and check.

  • I'd ring them and say that they previously said that they would take dogs and you booked a holiday because of that. If they wont budge then I would ask for a refund from the Sun, if not then try to sell it or get someone to look after the dog whilst you are away.
I think they may have said no dogs because of loads of little kids will be there .

Hiya, for the last few years OH and I have been on similar to the Sun holidays but book direct online.
Like the Sun holidays we always have the basic/bronze caravan for dog owners.
Taking x1 dog costs 30 pounds for 3/4 night break and 50 pounds for 7 nights. This is Park Resorts.

Prehaps you can phone and ask for dog friendly accommodation and pay the dog fee as an extra.

We changed our paperwork last time and added a dog which down graded us from a luxury to a basic caravan and we were put at the very end of the site! We didn't have to pay any extra though as we had paid for luxury so were not charged for the dog.
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

I sent the holiday park an email and this is their reply: I am not happy as I understood that dogs could be taken on a Sun holiday and in Martin's tips on how to book it says that dogs can be taken

Please be advised that we do not permit any dogs in the accommodation offered on the Sun Promotion – Under the terms and conditions of the Sun promotion, Clause 10 states that pets are not permitted at any of the Parks and in the brochure accompanying the Sun promotion we do not say that you can have dogs at our Parks.

I would suggest that you contact the Sun directly should you wish to cancel your holiday as we are not able to offer you the ‘dog friendly’ accommodation at our Bashley Park.

This seems correct. Your contract is with the Sun so you need to sort it out with them.

I am going to but it seems the Sun are saying dogs are no longer allowed on their cheap holidays and, if this is the case, I feel they should make it better known as I understand that in the past lots of people have taken a dog. Also, as I said, Martin talks about taking a pet in his guide to Sun holidays so he obviously doesn't realise they appear to have changed this.

    From the Sun FAQ section:

"Unfortunately, the Terms and Conditions clearly state that we are unable to accept pets through the promotion. Some Holiday Parks may accept pets, although this is at their discretion, and will be shown on your holiday confirmation. The park will request additional payment for pets.
If the Holiday Park you are allocated does not accept pets, we are unable to amend or cancel your holiday."

So it may be that some parks still do on an individual basis, but the person booking would need to check directly with them first, mentioning the Sun promotion.
I agree it is misleading though, as the OP did check that the park took dogs, and I'd probably have assumed the same, that it would be ok.

Do you really need to lose out on the holiday though? If you've been away without the dogs before, couldn't you do it again one last time?
I have to be honest, I prefer my holidays dog free - getting out and about for as long as I like without having to worry about getting back for the pooch, or whether it's safe to leave him in the car. And being able to go into cafe's for a meal.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Could you not phone the park and ask if it would be possible to upgrade to accomodation where you can take the dog and find out how much extra it would be?

I tried this and they were pretty unhelpful. They just say that dogs cannot be accepted on a Sun holiday but I can book a holiday with my dog direct with the park. Great, except that it is much much much more expensive
