WE often use the Gatwitck Central Travel Lodge. Its very reasonable has on site parking (extra to the room you get a link to book it when you have booked the room). there is a bus comes to the door every 15 mins or so which takes you to either terminal. You do pay for the bus though.

We are big fans of Premier Inn and will be using Manchester airport one on Tuesday.

However, for our Gatwick flight we used Effingham Park Copthorne, as we could leave the car on site. Cheap taxi to airport and no risk of anyone razzing around in our car or parking it in a side street, as seen on Watchdog.

We don't know the Gatwick area, do had no idea how handy the car parks are.

I tried the Effingham Park Copthorne a couple of years ago when I got a very cheap park & stay deal. It was OK for one night but the hotel and room looked as if it hadn't been decorated since the 80s and you have to factor in the time and cost of a taxi. They did have a shuttle bus but it only ran once an hour

On balance, I preferred the Premier Inn due to it's convenience. I got from bed to the airside bar in less than 10 minutes.

Also check whether your airline allows you to drop your cases the night before: http://www.gatwickairport.com/at-the-airport/flying-out/check-in/day-before-check-in/

agree with this - one less thing to faff about with on the morning of the flight, much more relaxing start to the holiday, we think.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Thanks for all the info folks as I said before Premier Inn is my hotel of choice for work travel and they are usually decent value, I was just a bit unsure of the proximity to the South terminal from the one that offers park and fly at the North terminal..

I think we will book the park and fly package save messing about on the day we fly, we are leaving on a noon flight but as it's a Monday and I regularly travel to Heathrow so I know it can be a 4 hour journey or a 6 hour journey depending on traffic I prefer to drive down on the Sunday.

I stayed there last year and the window right by my room had a view down onto the monorail. I am returning there in september. It is really easy and very quick to get between the terminals. Can't comment on the parking as i come by train but they definitely do offer it.

This will be the second time of using the Premier Inn, and this time we are going to use their "meal package". We ate last year at Giraffe which was very expensive and not very good. This year we shall make a little outing to the Marks and Spencers at the South Terminal to buy a nicely chilled bottle of wine for drinking in our room!
No Matter what you do there will be critics.

The food in Premier Inn is predictable but usually reasonably priced and edible I don't do breakfast in hotels so I don't do the package but it is value for money if you do.

Yeah, the food is OK by pub grub standards. The restaurant does get very busy though. I didn't do breakfast either as I had a very early flight so just grabbed something at the airport.

The shuttle bus time suited us, along with our very cheap deal . The main attraction, though was the on site parking,,especially after Watchdog.

Reading the many hotel descriptions, it seemed as if we'd have to park at an APH , then take a shuttle to the hotel. Being from North Wales,,we didn't have an idea how easy that would be. For our return journey,,we rang a designated number and had a taxi for the shuttle price.
