I have bought three brand new cars in the last 12 years & not once have I been asked for my DOB or asked to show a driving licence at the dealership.0 -
clairecymru - what have you started?
It seems to me that this proves beyond all doubt that all compers are different. They comp for different reasons; they have different views on what is "ethical"; they enter different amounts and types of competition; and they use different methods and techniques. Fascinating........:cool:Still cracking on....

Wow - I really did stir up a hornets nest with this one. I never even thought about it being an issue and definitely didn't see it as being dishonest or deliberately hiding anything.
My brother in law has been a victim of identity theft and I just thought I was being cautious. Oh well, each to their own.0 -
I've seen more than one post suggesting that people are 'upset' at others using wrong/incorrect/fictional/half-assed/whatever details. I must be reading a whole other thread then - I don't see anyone actually upset - unless the definition of upset has been changed this very afternoon by the Department of Definitions? Has it? What I see is other people sharing their opinions as is usual practice on a forum is it not? What I really really do not see is anyone in tears, flouncing, having a breakdown or generally having to be sedated because of some nothing little thing that other people choose to do. That is all.0

I don't think the whole one digit wrong in your d.o.b is a major problem, it's easily done through error as it is. I do use a slightly different address for comping, our house falls under two different areas so I use one for official things - banks etc and one area for comping.
I think making up whole new names, dob's and false persona's is much more of a problem but does seem to happen a lot more lately, especially on facebookYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

Slightly off topic but before we got married a lot of utility bills and stuff relating to the house were in my maiden name. I've given up being surprised by the amount of phone calls / junk mail we still get 24 years on using that name. It is helpful to be able to discard them straight away though.Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

unless for a n age restricted prize, I don't see WHY promoters feel the need for our DoB..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -

Legit reasons apart from age restricted products it can be used as part of proof of id to help prevent multiple entries and just or more importantly for the company is marketing - to check promotions are reaching their target audience at least by gender and age.0 -
Wow, some people are so uppity on this board!
I used to change my DOB for comping when I was under 18 (so long ago...) and never had anybody ask for proof of ID for wins (mostly cosmetics and books back then). I don't bother now because all my details inc. address and phone number are public domain and easily searchable because of work.0
