Forgetting my DOB

I accidentally put my comping DOB down onto an official form today. It is only a matter of time before I forget what my actual DOB is.

If you are using a fake dob - then you will get prizes disallowed - such as itv, fragrance shop etc.. Who want a copy of driving licence/passport etc to claim cetain prizes.
Why anyone would use a fake dob is beyond me??????Still comping, after 2 heart attacks 4th feb & 6th feb, and a stent put in.. 45 years old only:eek:0 -

I always have used a fake DOB, just in case my details get sold on. It is only slightly different from my real DOB, which I could explain as a typo if challenged.0

I don't see how that helps unless you use slightly fake address and an ever so slightly fake telephone number etc. How does it work?0

I would be careful... Ts and Cs are getting wise to this. The SalesGossip ones now say that they will disqualify anyone giving fake details, and if they find out after the event they will seek return of prize or cost thereof. Ironic when all they ask for is name and email! But I am sure other companies have similar terms... :undecided:0

I think its common sense to not provide the correct date of birth from a data protection point of view, especially, as Claire says, if details are sold on. I use an altered dob (I change the last number in the year), if asked I will say its a typo. I won from the Perfume shop and sent a copy of my passport, they did not even question it. ITV do usually not ask for dob.0 -
if you use a fake dob then you deserve to be disqualified
if you're so worried about 'identity theft' which doesnt happen a lot them stop comping
only ones that will bother with your id are unscrupulous indian or nigerian scammers and they wouldn't know how to run a comp unless you get an email from Dr ahmed from umbongo land0 -
I agree with those who don't change their date of birth. It certainly never crossed my mind to use anything but my real one.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I have used a "comping DOB" for upwards of six years.
In that time time I have won many prizes including alcohol, age restricted videos & holidays.
Not once in those six years has anyone challenged my DOB & if they did I would blame it on my legendary poor typing skills.
As has been stated on this forum many times we are all adults & capable to choosing what do do.I have chosen this course of action for what some may see as vacuous reasons but they are my reasons.
What others do re DOB is their concern & it is not my place to dictate to them.
I am well aware of the risks involved but as stated above there has never been an issue raised.
To add to the mix I even use a comping address to differentiate comping related mail.0 -
I use a fake DOB, I use the same system as Salsa, alter the end number in my year of birth by 1 (it makes me a year younger which is also a benefit).
I've been comping for a very long time and I've never been asked for proof of my details or DOB, even for holiday wins.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0
