I use a comping DOB but I give the real year. I figure that's the only important bit for age-restricted stuff. Not had a problem so far but also I don't enter holiday comps so I figure less likely to be an issue.
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!

I knock a day off mine. I'll change to real one if someone is denied a prize if their birthday is one day out. Until that day I won't listen to all the speculation, scaremongering and accusations. Some people can be rather 'outspoken' over a very non-major thing.

    Good luck peeps.

I am at a loss how people can be upset or have anything to say about people wishing to alter their d.o.b. Totally up to the person entering the competition - it is any wonder anybody admits to anything on here.!

I use my real details always.

I have had to provide ID before when someone decided to try and pretend to be me to claim my prize!

I have also had to provide ID at the door when having alcohol delivered as part of a prize and they actually picked up on the different surname and I had to show them my marriage certificate and explain i'd just got married
Not really comping any more as too ill - but hoping to win £1000+ in 2017 in cash prizes - watch this space!

Sorry, I thought it was topical after seeing the red highlighting in the Ts and Cs here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5017898
If You provide an incorrect name, age, address or other incorrect information in relation to the Competition entry, then SalesGossip reserves the absolute right to treat that entry as invalid.

But... looking at it :o:o .... I think it was the poster that put in the red highlight not the company... :o:o

Still, I don't feel I was scaremongering, when I was using something factual. It's important users know if something has apparently changed recently, I think - or maybe not.

Gosh, the depths to which some people sink does shock me!

Wow! Some people seem to be right up on their high horses about this. I never change any of my details when entering comps, but after reading this I can totally understand why folk would. If using slightly incorrect details for entering competitions means they lose out on prizes, it's them that will have to deal with that... Not anyone else. It's not being dishonest, just cautious. You hear far too many stories of folk's data being passed around.

Again though, changing details isn't something I'd do. I'd be too scared in case I missed out on a prize. I think people should stop being so judgemental about compers who do take these precautions though.

I was that poster and I did change it to red, as I guessed many didn't use correct details.

Also I have won over 100 bottles of alcohol this year and there was no age check when it was delivered. ( I am over 21).
I wouldn't mind but I don't drink! And before anyone complains about that they were runner up prizes.
    thanks to all posters

I've changed my facebook username to NOBODY so when I enter FB comps I press the "Like" button it will say NOBODY likes this

I use a slightly different dob.
I have no idea why that is such a controversial thing to do as I am not defrauding anyone, or doing anything that affects anyone else in any way at all. I still only enter each competition once so it doesn't affect the odds for me or anyone else winning. If those people who are getting upset about it would clarify why they think it's such a big deal, then I'd be interested to know why as from my perspective it's got nothing to do with anyone else at all.
I've only been asked once for my DOB by a promoter and when I explained that it was different to the details on the form and my reasons for that, it wasn't a problem. If it's not a problem for the company giving the prize, then why on earth should it be for anyone else?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
