B&Q cancelling order...

Hi everyone,
My name is Ash, I'm a new member, joined today to get some valuable advice. Hope you can help.
Myself and the Mrs, popped into our local B&Q last sunday 13th July to look at a kitchen.
We didn't want to waste any ones time by having them design it or us and then not being able to get finance, so we got approved for the 0% finance on offer at B&Q for £2,500 (20% deposit)
We were then offered a date/time to come back have the kitchen designed etc. We were asked to bring in the measurements as B&Q don't come out to the house to do that...
Anyway, 18th July (our sons birthday) 5:30pm we visited B&Q and had the kitchen designed. The designer knew we were pre-approved for finance and continued with the design and he was EXTREMELY helpful.
We changed our mind a few times, im sure everyone does. but once or twice coz whatever we wanted they didn't have in stock or was discontinued.
We finally made up our minds and he said to us to walk around and decide on the white goods while he adds it all up... while were walking round he offered us a 20% discount. which was amazing and meant we could buy better quality hob and oven.
Anyway by all the adding was done and the fact the B&Q computer system was SOOOOO slow, it was now gone 9pm! YES 4 HOURS! while it was our sons birthday and he was at home waiting to cut his cake!
Ourselves and the designer agreed that we come back in the morning 19/7/14, (today) to finalise and pay the deposit.
We went in at around 11am, and made one or two changes, signed the finance forms, and paid the £500 deposit.
We got home and got a phone call from B&Q telling us we need to come back in again and increase our loan as the 20% discount was offered in error and we owe them another £300 odd pounds.
We went into the store, asked to speak to the manager who happened to be the same person we spoke to on the phone!
It was unbelievable how the whole thing was turned around on us... some of the things she said...
"you promised to pay cash last night, hence 20% discount was offered and you changed your mind in the morning..."
"you changed your mind too many times in choosing the kitchen, therefore designer got confused and offered discount in error"
She confirmed that there is no way B&Q will allow the 20% discount, so we can either pay the extra or cancel the order...
We are very desperate for a kitchen, and we really needed this one delivered on Tuesday...
Do we give in, and cancel the order or pay the extra? or fight em?
As we've paid the deposit, and they have accepted our custom, are they not in a contract with us?
Anyway, I hope you guys can advise.
oh, and sorry for the HUUUGE 1st post.
Thanks
Ash

Sorry, you lost my interest when you put looking for a kitchen ahead of your son's birthday. Let alone then using that as an excuse to get mad.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I would tell them 20% discount or cancel. I agree about the birthday. Birthdays are really important to children.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

It's very true about the birthday. But we didn't expect to be there for more than an hour...
Plus his birthday party was planned for today...
The kitchen manager didn't seem to bothered if I cancelled the order, in-fact she seemed as if she wanted me to cancel.
I'm sorry if I've offended anyone for not being at my son's birthday...0 -
When we were looking for a new kitchen last year we found B&Q very over priced.
We found a local kitchen fitter that got us a huge discount with Howdens and have been very impressed by the quality of their products.
Personally id count this as a blessing in disguise!0 -

I'm not offended but I do think you need to sort out your priorities:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

We don't have a kitchen, therefore priority is the kitchen.
Without knowing the whole situation of my household, you are wrong for judging me...
I'm not here to get advice on how I should or should not spend my sons birthday... I've signed up and asked for advice about a kitchen from B&Q.
Anyway, thanks for the advice people.
If any mods are reading, pls go ahead and cancel my account.

Try not to take it to heart.
It's not personal (how can it be when the posters in question don't know you personally). As on just about all public, anonymous forums, there are an awful lot of keyboard warriors whose sole purpose in posting seems to be in an attempt to denigrate others and make themselves feel superior.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand.
I would agree with powerful rogue about Howdens.
I had a kitchen fitted about 7 years ago with it being supplied by Howdens (independantly fitted) and due to a water leak last year, I needed a couple of replacement panels.
Howdens managed to source these for me even though the design in question had been discontinued a few years previously.
They are cheaper than B&Q and their aftersales service is generally far better.0 -
The OP mentioned it was his son's birthday and seemed quite happy to use the fact if it meant he got a 20% discount on the kitchen.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. The OP mentioned it was his son's birthday and seemed quite happy to use the fact if it meant he got a 20% discount on the kitchen.
Where exactly did the OP state or imply that the 20% discount was anything to do with their son's birthday?
They clearly stated that the salesman stated that the discount was for paying by cash.0 -

I dont see anywhere the Op mentioned the birthday to get the discount.
What difference does a birthday make and going to B and Q, why is the birthday more important?0
