pickle bought 1yr out of date!!

I did not buy it, it was my mum. She said it was just marked down as clearance OOD food section. She has not opened it, but to be honest if I was her I would have just paid the £2 for the full price in date stock rather than just save a £1 for clearance jar.
So it was bought knowingly out of date , and you want to take it back to get a refund ? good luck with that

They key here is that the store needs to demonstrate that A food which is past its ‘best before’ date should be safe to eat, but may not be at its best quality after this date.
I think you are misinterpreting the word "should". In this sense it does not mean anything legal, as in "Drivers should stop if the light is red". It is more like "the use by date is yesterday, but as it is only 10 past midnight it should be safe to eat it".0 -
I am still here after eating my crumpet this morning!0
