Me and a few girls at work were discussing this just earlier in the week. We were saying how vinegar and salt never used to have a BBE/expiration date - and how it was ironic given both are used to preserve food themselves. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Doesn't pickle - up to a point - improve with age?
Currently happily using 5 year old home made stuff0 -
my mum bought a pickle from a foreign food shop as it was marked down to a £1. When she got home I noticed the use by date was May 2013.
I know its only a £1 but what is the law on this? I said she should take it back, but does she have a right? I mean a month out of date is acceptable but a year is taking the mickey.
Absolutely fine..its been brined for an extra year and will taste better for it. You could sell it on ebay and maybe make a profit even. The shop isn't the one trying to take it?!0 -
I may eat it, but I certainly wouldn't buy it.0

"best before" can continue to be sold after the date - otherwise it would be costing "Approved Food" a fortune to stay in business.
"The biggest online seller of close to, and past, best before date food and drink"
