Wow, a lot of lucky people in this thread. If thief, deus ex, dishonoured...hell, even the simpsons movie game... are the "worst you have ever played" then you're doing well.

For me the "worst game I have played" would have to be something that is fundamentally inept. You know... the gameplay is half baked and the actual core mechanics are disfunctional; where the graphics are difficult to make out, or are just plain glitchy; where the audio presentation makes you want to pull your ears off.

Dishonoured does hardcore stealth very well, and it works as intended even if it isn't your cup of tea. It's not objectively "bad".

For me, the game I'd pick would be Iron and Blood on the PS1. It's a beat-em-up that completely fails in every regard.

It is fought on a 3d plane with 2d movement, but is coded in such a way that you can become misaligned with your opponent and stride past them, but cannot then turn around. This leads to battles where you and your opponent rub your butts together like a pair of confused strippers.

You can unlock mid-match power ups, such as the "ring of equilibrium" which is supposed to stop you from being knocked over. These power ups can be activated but do not work.

The music and sound effects are dreary, the graphics muddy, and the action slow.

It lacks anything that could be described as finesse or depth. Between all the characters, the campaign has a grand total of two endings which both last no more than about 15 seconds and make no sense.

The entire thing is a travesty. I rate it as worse than super man 64 and ET because those two transcended bad to become meaningful curios. There is no enjoyment to be had with Iron and Blood.

Usually the games that are duff are tied into a movie release but the all time worse for me had to be Daley Thompson Decathlon on the Commodore 64.

You had to load a tape which could take up to 40mins to load if successful on the first attempt!, then waggle your joystick like a demented idiot and bash buttons, I managed to break two joysticks before I gave up on it.

BTW, someone mentioned ET on the Atari - it regulary comes up as one of the worst ever, but I never played it, so I feel like I missed out somewhat.

Well seeing as they just dug it up maybe you can get a copy?!

King Kong the Game springs to mind, absolutely rubbish game! Halo ODST was far too short and I was really looking forward to Stranglehold but found it glitchy.

deus ex. ridiculously hard. people who are great at games seem to like it but be objective, a game should be able to appeal to all abilities.
playing borderlands at the moment and thats super tough. i have somehow managed to get to the final boss. will i beat the boss? i'm not sure, i arent confident. this game has so many faults. one boss i faced was still alive after i had unloaded all bullets of all four weapons into it. i had to resort to useing the turret which took an age coz it only lasts so long and then you have to wait a while before useing it again. another boss was able to regenerate its energy if you didnt keep shooting at it. this would be fine except it kept running and hiding before you killed it.

I think the issue with Borderlands is that while you can play it in single-player, the game is designed for multi-player co-op so a lot of the bosses are weighted toward there being one or more people there. I've been playing a bit of Borderlands 2 lately with a friend who has played it and the amount of times they've uttered the words "this is so much easier with two people" makes me think that the scaling (if present) for single player isn't particularly well done.

I haven't played it SP but I could see it being a frustrating experience.
  • Forbidden Siren for PS2...and the remake (Siren Blood Curse) on the PS3.

Should have been brilliant, with the concept...

I don't care if it's a 'classic' - I have a hatred stemming from childhood for Ecco the Dolphin!

    I much preferred Mega-Lo-Mania/Bubsy etc.

I disliked the 'inbetween' style Tomb Raider Games. Loved the first few but the tailed off a bit. Angel of Darkness got slated but I had some fun with it - didn't have the same vibe though!
Does the walker choose the path or the path the walker?

Prince of Persia on PS3. I loved it on the old 286 (yes back when we played games on old CRT monitors!) but found the play on the PS3 to be too difficult. Probably me just being useless at it!
