Oh do stop being a git. People don't have to like having cats in their garden and house (and I speak as someone who would love it).

    Good day, Madam.

    I see.

Well, I imagine this amongst other things such as the sound of the laughter of children or the peal of church wedding bells in the distance must be quite vexatious for you.

Nevertheless, fortunately for you I am an expert on cats and an expert on psychology, and cat psychology. And the psychology other other small mammals.

Wedding bells = noise, no offensive mess
Children laughing = noise, no offensive mess

Cats pooping on your lawn and walking into the house = offensive trespassing

Maybe you should have attended the course on logic when you were studying psychology. :rotfl:

Yes because noise is the same as someone making a mess in my garden isnt it.

I have no issues with kids or churches - despite not being a parent and an atheist.

I know you dont want them and appreciate that, it is not your fault they are at your house. I think it is awful of the person who lived there before to just leave without sorting out other arrangements for them (if they are strays) they fed them so that made them have a responsibility to them.

Can you at first find out if they belong to any of the neighbours? Even if they have homes they will still come to yours if they were fed there before. If they have a home then do as someone suggested above and spray them with water whenever they get near, they will soon get the message and stay away. If you find out they are strays, do you think you could be kind enough to them to inform the local cats center/rspca so they can be taken to safety where they will be fed and not just frightened away with no where else to go.

Thank you for all your replies. I will try each method and see which one works.

The cats do not belong to previous owner I remember viewing the property and there was one cat in the garden and owner advised it belong to one of the neighbours.

In all honestly I could bare 1 but 4 is off limits! They don't even roam about in garden they all just wait by the door. I can't even have my French doors open.

If the cats do not belong to either neighbour can I not just get the RSPCA to take them. Sorry I know nothing about pets.

I think you will have to try a bit further a field than your two neighbours as cats do roam, maybe check a few houses down on each side, someone will know who they belong to of if they are strays.

try to look at it as a positive, you are new to the street this will help you get speaking to your neighbours, much more original than asking for a bowl of sugar! Can you take a photo of them on your phone and show it to the neighbours when you call.

Do they look like stays? Are their coats groomed and clean or are they straggled and dirty looking?

I am sure the rspca will take them, just make sure you tell them that you don't want anything to do with them and will not feed/look out for them at all, even for a few days whilst you wait for them to be collected. Any hint to them that you are willing to help might put you further down the list of priorities. Also make sure you tell them that you have been down the street to ask and try to find out if they have homes first.

    Hi

Well l I've finally received the keys to my new home and have one problem cats by my back doors. There are 4 in total.

I can only assume that the previous owner fed the cats hence why each time I open my back doors they come rushing, I thought one was going to crashed into the door it came running so fast.

I will not be feeding the cats but my main concern is the previous owner lived at the property for many years. I can't see the cats leaving anytime soon. It's been a week and they have been there day and night.

Any ideas on how I can stop the cats from coming in my garden and by my back doors.

    Thanks

cant you call animal control to get them to collect them....they will eventually leave if there isnt any food being given out...but if you cant wait there is always the extreme measures......

Good grief. One would think the animals were producing a hundred weight of dung, like a veritable herd of prize fresians periodically galloping along your newly purchased paddock.

If the felines really are so effusive in their fecal effluent I suggest you contact DEFRA and find a farmer who could make good use of it for his flora and fauna.

You can put paper collars on the cats - the owners might contact you - if no-one does then you can tell the RSPCA that you think they are strays.
