I'd probably think so too, even with vouchers. Might need to take it slow and steady, or possibly explain the situation in the listing.0 -
Thanks, will contact.0 -
My initial idea would have been to ask around all my friends and family even on social networks to see if there's anything they want, or if they want to stock up on Christmas gifts. They can pay you directly and you can entice them by giving a 10-20% discount or however much you feel is appropriate for them 'helping out'.
I then saw we are talking about 20K which is a slightly larger sum to shift, but it might get the ball rolling!
Edit (afterthought): They sell Mulberry handbags which might get you a better margin than gold, and at ~£1000 and up each you wouldn't have to buy loads of them. Perhaps place some ads on Gumtree or similar to avoid the eBay fees, only order when someone expresses interest, and you have the 14 day return to fall back on if you get let down...
Thanks for this.
I'm a bit wary of the safety of Gumtree and the likes...I'm not sure how it works!0 -

Gumtree is basically like a newspaper classified advert. Don't post out anything you sell on there, the idea is it is meant to be local so someone would come and collect the item/voucher and you would get cash from them. A downside is that because it's local, your advert probably won't get seen by as many people as it would on eBay. However, advertising is free, and in your position you can wait to order until someone expresses interest so if nobody contacts you it really doesn't matter.
I understand some people might not be comfortable with meeting people but I normally take my boyfriend or a friend with me and meet people somewhere neutral (like a petrol station or coffee shop) during the day so that they don't know where I live and you reduce the chance of someone just stealing your item from you. Never accept anything other than cash, and if you feel uncomfortable about the person just walk away.
The upside to selling that way is that you don't have to deal with paying eBay fees of 10% and upwards of the sale price, then Paypal fees on receiving the money, and you don't have to worry about things going missing in the post or somebody on eBay later claiming that the item was never received (which you can avoid by sending by signed for post and keeping receipts). If you are given cash there is no way for it to bounce (unless it's fake money, but there are easy ways to check!), and the money is available to you immediately.
Both methods have their ups and downs and risks, as does any form of selling to the general public, but as long as you are careful then you should be fine whichever route you choose. If you ever get the feeling from someone that they might be trying to scam you, they probably are!0 -

Items - absolutely... but giftcards might be different.
I got 4 tickets to Alton Towers through work once, and put them on Gumtree. I did state where the tickets were (my location), and that I'd be happy with cash on collection, or if someone wanted them sent out: Paypal or bank transfer.
They sold as two sets of 2, to people living close to the attraction (reason I never used them myself was living so far away). One paid via bank transfer, one paid via paypal. Tickets were sent out signed for, so they could track them, and I knew they'd arrived.
It could be that people all over the country searches for giftcards on Gumtree, as clearly they do for tickets.
Congrats on your amazing win OP!0
