I thought my sisters friend had taken an envelope with a tenner in it years ago. Never said anything just quietly stewed and was pleased when they fell out. few years later i gave some books to my best mates sister. You can guess what happened envelope was in a book and she gave it me back. I learnt then not to jump to conclusions.

Been on the other side as well been accused simply because i was somewhere on the day something went missing. I got married 2 years later with barely any family there because of it and stayed away from a family funeral. Its horrible being thought of as a thief. I just wish i knew what happened to missing item. I have my own suspisions but i have to let it go.

Hopefully it will turn up. Try not to assume the worst.

Just a thought as we have a mad cat does your friend have a cat or dog that might have knocked it out then hid it? Our cat hides things under the sofa seriously i caught him at it once he won't do it with an audience.

Do you really think that 'close friends' would have stolen something which they could buy themselves for very little money? If you are certain that they have, then you ought to speak to them about it. But if you have doubts (which you seem to), then you need to forget it/let it go and give them the benefit of the doubt. There isn't much else you can do - getting annoyed with posters who are pointing this out to, is pointless. Confront them or let it go.

I've had similar happen, too Maysie: I realised my Pandora bracelet had gone a few days after DS2 had a teenage party at home. I felt sick "knowing" one of his pals had taken it but luckily never mentioned it to him. Turns out DH had shoved it in a carrier bag inside a holdall we rarely use, then away into a cupboard we only keep spare pillows/quilts in and promptly forgot he'd ever seen it! Luckily DD found it by conducting a systematic search of even ridiculous places! :)

I also lost my engagement ring nearly 30 years ago. I tearfully told my best friend the next day and she said she'd seen me poke it inside a Doulton figurine on the mantelpiece .......I had no recollection of this whatsoever, but sure enough it was there :rotfl:

My husband is currently trying to find 2 USB sticks that he's misplaced. I say he misplaced as he can't remember what he last did with them, there were 3 missing but surprise surprise he's tidied up a bit and he found one.

I also find them in the washing machine quite regularly (yes they do survive).

Check everywhere before accusing anyone of stealing anything and yes £20 is expensive but there are places where you can get decent sized one for that amount, you might even find a better bigger one you just need to shop around.

It isn't really, though. It is the principle of it. The cost is about £20, but I doubt you would be saying "just buy another one" if you had something of yours stolen. It means I have to pay out another £20 for one, when I already have one that's been stolen.

You are not replacing one that has been stolen though, you are replacing one that has been misplaced (and it could have been your friends who moved it and forgot, knocked it onto the floor etc).

Do you really think your friends would steal something from you? Honestly and truly? Because if you do they are not true friends.

I left my engagement ring in a friends house a few years back. I knew I'd left it there, 100% knew I had. Next day it wasn't where I remembered leaving it. It took 3 months before it was discovered, in a corner of a hall cupboard having obviously been knocked down from the shelf and kicked/knocked. Even when we were hunting my friends house (and I was gutted at it being lost) I knew it had been lose and hadn't been stolen because there was no way that friend would do that.

Do you have that little trust and faith in your friends that they'd deliberately steal something worth so little from you?

This ^^^ I agree ... If this story IS true, then it's ridiculous. I am forever misplacing USB sticks. Lots of people misplace them, because they're stupidly small and easy to lose!

Chances are high it has NOT been stolen!

And yes kingslayer, I would 'just buy another one,' especially as you don't know for sure if it's even been stolen, or if you have just lost it.
