I think my friend or his brother have stolen something from me. What do I do?

Can I just say, do have your facts right before you go around accusing someone of stealing.
I was wrongly accused of stealing once......until 2 weeks later, when the person who'd accused me of stealing the money found it.......................pfft
Now you might think that just going to them and saying sorry to them makes it all ok, well it doesn't.
I knew I did not take the money, that I was accused of taking, but the person who accused me, thought nothing of telling others, and for 2 weeks, I was ill, even though I knew I'd done nothing, it made me ill, and it was an awful experience, one I never ever want to go through again.
Then when the person in question found their money, they just came to me and said 'oh it's all sorted now I've found the money, I must have misplaced it'
No sorry nothing.
Please have it correct before you do something, and make someone ill, and loose a friend in the process.0 -
I love it when people lose things and automatically assume that others have stolen it. Sounds like my kids, if they can't find something, than it can only be that the other one has taken it.
The reality is that the chances that you've lost it is much higher than that they would have stolen it. It's now up to you to decide if you have more to give them the benefit of the doubt even if they are guilty or accuse them of something they haven't done.0 -

This paragraph alone should tell you to let it go.0 -
It is really destroying when someone you trust steals from you.
Often you are fairly sure, but have no proof - and that letting it go is really hard.
In this case, it's a one off - chalk it up, be a bit more aware of your stuff, and see if anything ever happens again. It's not a major theft, they are not too expensive to replace, and you can tell them you can't find it anywhere, if it turns up, keep your eyes open yadda yadda....
Chances are this is a losing rather than a stealing - however I do understand how the very thought of a stealing can make you really upset. Try not to be, because you are not sure, so it could easily be a dropped or lost or fallen rather than a stolen.
Cut them some slack, and see if it turns up anywhere else.0 -
kingslayer wrote: »I really don't know how to go about this. Basically, I went to visit my friend yesterday and I took a small USB stick round there too. My friend's brother asked if I had a specific t.v. show on there, which I wasn't sure that I put on there. Anyway, I put the USB in the back of his t.v. and searched through it to see what I had on it. I am fairly positive that I left it in his t.v. and forgot to take it with me. The thing is, I can't find it anywhere at home and I asked my friend, but he says he hasn't seen it, and neither has his brother. I went there today to visit and sneakily looked in the back of the t.v. but it wasn't there. I don't want to start throwing accusations at people, but the USB stick has disappeared and I can only think it's someone in their home, and those two are main suspects. I think it's a sh*tty thing to do (if they have stole it) and I feel ashamed/upset/disappointed that any one of them would steal something from me. I don't have many close friends as it is, so for a close friend (that goes for both of them) to do something like that is very disrespectful.
Hire a private detective - and get him on the case0 -
kingslayer wrote: »My friend's brother asked me today if I had the USB on me. I was wondering why he would ask that. Is he trying to come across as clueless, but knows he stole it, or does he genuinely have no idea and was curious to know if I had it?
I will check more thoroughly, but I just don't remember clearly enough, taking it with me.
Is it really worth losing two friends over something as pointless as a memory stick?
As for your quote above, I think your looking into this too much. I'm thinking it's 99% likely you've lost it somewhere. Just be aware if you accuse them of stealing this your friendship is very likely over.0 -

Christ almighty. Yes it IS an OTT reaction. In fact, it's a ridiculous reaction. Just buy a new one !!!!!!.
Did you seriously need to start a thread on a national forum about it? Jeeeez! Get a grip. Talk about first world problems.
I am even questioning whether this actually happened.
It isn't really, though. It is the principle of it. The cost is about £20, but I doubt you would be saying "just buy another one" if you had something of yours stolen. It means I have to pay out another £20 for one, when I already have one that's been stolen.0 -

Jesus! :wall: :wall: :wall:
You've already admitted that you don't know if you've lost it or it's been stolen.
With reference to your other thread about loneliness, I'm not surprised you're lonely if this is how you view your friends when you're not even sure that they have stolen this item.kingslayer wrote: »Well I was trying to remember if I took it out from the back of their t.v, but I don't think I did.
