Oaprut, I would definitely encourage you to get another quote! To me, £10k seems an awful lot. It also depends on how long you are planning to stay in your house too. How much value would spending £10k on a bathroom add to your house? Just a thought. It's a price I would be prepared to spend on a kitchen, but not a bathroom of that size.

Timewise, we were told to allow up to 2 weeks for a straight swap. My neighbour's bathroom took 2 weeks, but they had swapped bath for shower and put the shower and toilets in different positions. As you are knocking down walls and will need a fair bit of re-plastering and drying time, it may be a reasonable amount of time.

Just my opinion, someone who is a lot more experienced can probably advise you better.

Your advice much appreciated. Am going to get another quote. £10,000 bathroom would add very little to selling price of house but as we are both retired and we intend this to be our 'last' home that would be of more concern to our children.

If you get another quote, would you let us know the difference if there is one? Just out of curiosity! Fingers crossed that it all works out for you Oaprut.

Has taken a while but have two more quotes; 1 from Bath Store using their fitter and 1 from local tradesman, using the Bath Store products. Both are about the same £6000-£6500. We like the Bath Store products more than the ones we chose from local bath store. Will use local fitter as he lives near and should be easy to contact should anything go wrong.

Well, bathroom finished, on time as promised. We are delighted with it, especially the fact that we saved £4000!
