This wasn't my experience with Ideal last year. I had no problems at all with my WC and basin.

    +1 for Hansgrohe showers.

This year alone as a bathroom installer I have had countless issues with there packaging and customer service, when you wait 6 weeks for a delivery only for it to arrive damaged and told you must wait another 6 weeks is a joke!

One job alone had 4 baths delivered before we ended up with one fit for purpose, 3rd delaminated 3 months after fitting and ended up having to be replaced again which was a task and a half given it was set under 3 sides of tiling

Customers who buy one product in there lifetime do not give a honest view of the company as a whole!!

We are buying our new bathroom from Wickes, our last bathroom was from Wickes and still looked good 10 years later. We do the work ourselves.
If i knew the answers to all the questions i wouldn't be on here :p

My view was honest; it was my experience, which I am entitled to give. And actually, this is my second Ideal albeit the first was over 20 years old and was still perfectly satisfactory when it was replaced.

I also didn't say I had an Ideal bath, so my comment was specifically about their WC and basin which I made clear was the case.

I have finished a bathroom and sourced every thing on line from the cheapest source. All firms took the credit card payments and their customer service is a joke. I expected delay and hoped to have the goods in the garage before the plumber started.
To be told to take up problems for incomplete delivery with the manufacturer and not the online supplier is normal until you get stroppy.
I suggest you find a local supplier to the trade with the brands you like and negotiate a discount direct.
After my experience I would not do it again.

We are hoping to have complete bathroom overhaul - bath out replaced with walk in shower, wall between toilet and bathroom to be removed to make one room, walls to be tiled, new electric shower, toilet and basin to be removed and new ones fitted on side wall, all rubbish to be removed. I have been quoted just over £10,000 does this seem reasonable? Bathroom will be about 2meters x 3 meters when finished.

Seems on the high side even taking into account of building work and presuming expensive fittings.

It seemed a bit high to me considering totally new kitchen (small wall knocked down) new electrics, new appliances etc was about the same.
Bathroom firm local and have good reputation but most people here have plenty of money; I'm not one of them unfortunately. I know they would do a really good job but £10,000+ they should do.
Unfortunately my husband has said yes to their quote without getting another. Not sure if that means we have to go ahead or if I can get out of it.

    QUOTE]

This is the most important point. Just do a search on this forum for all the problems people have had with their bathrooms re-fits by incompetent fitters. The firm has a good reputation for a reason and in my opinion it is worth paying extra for it.

Oaprut, out of £10,000, how much of that is fitting? We have only had one quote so far. We have a 2m x 2m bathroom and it is a case of ripping out the old and replacing it with new on a pretty much like for like basis (not as much work as you). The fitter gave a quote of roughly £1800 which includes ripping out old bathroom and tiles, re-plastering, plumbing and re-tiling. We have yet to source bathroom suite and tiles.

I don't know, just have total for the whole job. Nothing is separately priced. I have asked for the quote to be broken down but haven't received any more information. When I picked out the shower/tiles/basin/etc nothing was priced. I think the tiles look expensive but everything else is fairly standard; no gold plated taps! Only thing I know, is that I have been told work will take 2 - 3 weeks. Seemed a bit long to me. Last time we had any work done on a bathroom it was in our previous house and was straight substitution of products - out one day in, the next and just a little decoration to finish. This is a much bigger job but still think time allowed seems a lot. I did wonder if they are doing my job and others at the same time and so will be going back and forth, not here all the time.
I am lucky where I live as it is a fairly small town and finding 'good' builders etc not difficult. Anyone that gives poor service soon goes bust. I do someone else who could do the work and am thinking of asking for another quote (yes I know I should have done that first). If they are both similar than I'll just have to pay it and save money elsewhere.
