    It doesn't matter if it's 1000 or 1024 - the 24 isn't worth thinking about.

Same with MB and Mb - they are almost inter-changable these days, especially as many companies now just say "24 meg a second".

Those two issues are clouding the real problem.
  • Thanks for your replies but internet allowance whether gb, mb or whatever is irrelevant, its the hike in the bills that is the point, thanks

It's most likely data. They charge in the region £6 per Mb for out of allowance usage any that's Mb not Gb
You can check usage using EE app

The data might be relevant if he's got 250MB allowance and he's been using more and Orange/EE have been billing him for that extra.

It will be the cost of the picture messages, you are better only emailing them.

MMS costs 30p, if he's only sending the odd one or two, is not going to be that.

I'd second the data suggestion - I had mobile data switched on by mistake and the bill went up. Make sure it is turned off on the phone...
  • Just a thought, Does he live on the south coast by any chance?
I don't know whether it still happens, but in the past when i was with Orange, whenever i used my phone whilst walking my dogs on the beach, the bloody phone would pick up the French networks rather than the English ones, and then charge me the international roaming rates! Makesure he has "roaming" turned of if he is anywhere near the coast!

Usually the phone company send a text message to warn you when you are going over your data limit, and offer to let you buy an add on data bundle. Is his voice mail free?
