    Bestof luck.

It may turn out to be an error as was the failure to serve just the few properties from one pole which I queried but if it is a cabinet serving few properties they haven't connected that may well be a deliberate commercial decision.

Frankly - I believe that it was a commercial decision - but without any viable reason !!

    UPDATE - No Update !!

Despite BT changing the cabinet to a "FIBRE type" one - they have still not connected it or us to the network - any idea how long we are expected to wait for a fibre connection - once we have reached this stage ?
I emailed BT - high level complaints again and received back a response that implies sometime/never !!

    Further Update !
Response from HLC - Evidently, despite replacing the cabinet - we are not due for fibre until end February 2015 - that's 6 months away - what do you bet it moves right ?
  • I doubt they will bring forward what is fairly major work based on a single complaint. However you might get lucky.

Not sure what you mean by they changed your cabinet to a fibre style one. This is not how it works. They erect a separate fibre cabinet alongside or nearby the existing one.

It sounds like all that has happened is that they have changed the shell of the existing cabinet, in which case there is still a lot of work to be done.

Apparently you need to declare an emergency to get road works approved, otherwise you have to wait for the highway agencies and the utilities to "co-ordinate" their road digging activities, for your comfort and convenience.

A recent newspaper article about some West London street, is that all the road works are "emergencies", but to avoid paying a fine for doing work during the day, which disrupts traffic, they start from about 10pm, and work throughout the night. Yes, there are residents nearby who cannot sleep.

You are correct - when I say "changed" - I mean added a separate fibre type cabinet !!
They evidently can't afford to replace the cabinet themselves and need financial assistance from BDUK !!
This is despite BT making profits of over £2 billion after tax (2013) ..
Its about time that BT was broken up and run by professionals !!
At least BT should soon be subject to responding to FOI requests

If it serves 30 homes, then I suspect it wont be financially viable
The NHS, councils, railways.... all not financially viable but that's not what its about.
BT just don't want to spend money. While I understand they will take a loss, other areas of the business will make a profit, so overall, the company will make a profit.

Too many shareholders these days want profit in EVERY AREA OF THE BUSINESS, when that's not how to make a successful business.

Just because an aeroplane hasn't had ALL seats booked, doesn't mean they cancel the flight (bar a few airlines of course!).

I'm pretty sure that they can afford it, however it costs a lot of money to implement and of course most of the end users want it as cheap as possible, meaning they would make a loss on it.

And of course since their only obligation is to make a profit for the shareholders they are obviously not going to fund something that is going to cause them a loss.

Anotheruser mentioned the NHS, Councils and railways not being financially viable either. These are all government subsidised too. ;)

Re-nationalize all of the vital services (phones, water, gas, electricity, government departments etc) only run them more like private businesses (ie be more aware of profit/loss - bring in bosses from the private side to run them !!!
