Is it legal that they demand that you shut down your other account? Is there no way to opt out of this that anyone knows of?0

Yes it is. It is part of the terms of 'switching' your account.
If you don't want your existing account to be closed, simply apply for your new account but don't use the switching service. Simples0 -
...<snip>...
On your Lloyds issue, only BoS accounts are excluded from the offer.
All the above is on the Halifax website.0 -
I already have as a donor account with Halifax
- One Halifax Current Account (I will use this to earn £100 incentive)
- Two Halifax Rewards (to earn £5 a month). Please ignore it just in case this info is irrelevant.
I might misunderstand what you are trying to do, but you can't transfer a Halifax account to Halifax.
Also, since there is now a max of 1 Reward account per person, they might ask you to close one of them when you apply for the £100 switch. They asked me to do this about a year ago but that was in Branch - you might get away with it online. I decided at the time that the £100 wasn't worth giving up a Reward account and abandoned my switch. They told me that their HQ would write to me about the need to give up the 2nd Reward account but this hasn't happened.
Please report back how you get on with your switch.
As a matter of interest, why don't you want to give up the Lloyds Vantage accounts?0 -

I will not do that. I will switch either of NW flexi account or LLoyds Vantage ac.Also, since there is now a max of 1 Reward account per person, they might ask you to close one of them when you apply for the £100 switch. It happened to me as well when I called their Phone banking team almost a year ago. That is also a reason why I am trying not to have contact directly with them either on the phone or in branch. This time I will apply online. But i wil need all information I need to avoid having contact with them. Please report back how you get on with your switch.
I will keep informing the forum as this is what this forum is all about, e.g sharing info and direct experience. As a matter of interest, why don't you want to give up the Lloyds Vantage accounts?
I will try to avoid that because I have a better alternatives. e.g three NW flexi accounts available that do not earn any interest at all. I only need to keep one NW flexi ac to maintain EU travel insurance.0 -

I do agree there's a risk involved though...for the OP it's a guaranteed £120 a year vs £60 a year and a one-off £100. And if they do close one, Adindas will never be able to replace it.0 -
I set up a Halifax reward account a couple of months ago (very badly). I switched an account to them, credited it with 750 pounds, but made the school boy error of adding two dd's after the switch. So obviously no 100 pounds and no fiver pm. I have since switched this account to another bank, so my question is this:
Can I switch again to Halifax to take advantage of this offer, even though I have switched before but did not receive any switching bonus or monthly fiver?"It would be easier to find a packet of sliced hippopotamus in suitcase sauce" - Basil Fawlty0 -

"You are not eligible for this offer if you have received £100 for switching to a Halifax bank account at any point since January 2012"
In your case you did not receive any incentive, so you should be able to switch and get £100 incentive.
The only issue here (if they found you) is that you recently closed your account and open the same account again. Keep in mind, it is up to them to choose the customer they like to accept. So even you meet criteria it is still up to them whether they want to accept it.
I wonder why you did not get your fiver. Designating account to reward account can be done anytime by adding two DD which will pay monthly and pay £750 monthly.
If you add 2DD and pay £750 a month even in the later date you should be able to get your fiver. Did you ask them that you want to change it to reward account, you need to be sure whether your account is a reward account or not ?0 -

I just made a mess of it, it was my first ever switch. I will reapply and see what happens. Thanks."It would be easier to find a packet of sliced hippopotamus in suitcase sauce" - Basil Fawlty0
