O/S Daily Thread Wednesday 16th July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Back in work for a couple of days so return to being up at stupid o'clock and did not sleep well last night. I think an early night will be In order tonight.

DH is back training tonight so will be light tea of salmon and stir fry. He hasn't trained for weeks due to marking so he will be in a sad state tomorrow!

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day.

  • Good morning all,

A beautiful morning here, WM on with first load and have just stripped the bed.

Didn't sleep well either TTFTM. Himself still not sleeping and the cat seemed not to want to sleep either. Have been up since 5!!

We need to finish the front garden this morning before it becomes too hot. Not much to do but we have a very large shrub that really needs a good hair cut:)

Not gong out today but 2 grand children coming for their dinner tonight. They love a roast so I always try to do one for them, but I have a feeling I may be melting in the kitchen. Definitely icecream for dessert.

Safe journey Lyn and enjoy your time with the Zebra child and DD.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all,

Beautiful day here again off to work for me and I shall drop dd on the way.

I seemed to have picked up another sore throat and streaming nose I think the clients bring it into work then it spreads, its a bit like when your child first starts school and they get everything going !

Carbonara for dinner tonight maybe with some garlic bread and salad will look forward to that.

Right better get on, have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Light here and very overcast, and misty – but mist now seems to be lifting – very humid and warm already.

DH up and gone to work early but not stupid early. Greenhouse and plants watered. Washing on the line. Next load in the WM.
Dinner last night was pasta with mushrooms and crème fraiche with a breaded chicken steak for myself and the boys, DH was late in and just wanted an egg and bacon roll. Tonight we will be having sausages, I’ll serve jacket potatoes, cheese, beans, and side salad with it.

Work was busier than I expected, but not continuously – we kept having loads of calls at the same time then nothing for a while – but again at times, it was completely evident that we don’t really have enough staff. Only working until lunchtime today then on days’ off which I’m pleased about – have all the normal chores to do – so will crack on with those when I get in from work this afternoon.

Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning everyone another hot day here already, housework done and fridge and freezer sorted so He Who Knows can find things while I'm away.

Thanks CANDLELIGHT I'm off on an earlier train today and not looking forward to the 2 1/2 hour journey but, we're taking Zebra swimming this afternoon, apparently he loves it so that will be fun and cool us down too. We were really busy in the garden last night and have taken the first lot of french beans down in the polytunnel and planted the second batch and the second batch of peas have flowers and a few pods set already. The redcurrants are beautifully ripe now and will be picked on Friday to make jelly on Saturday and it looks like a really good crop this year.

I'll post again when I get home and in the meantime look after yourselves and I hope that problems are being solved, health issues are improving and that you all are able to enjoy this wonderful weather, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all :)

Sunny here again after another warm night. I spent most of yesterday online looking up places to visit in Wales, so naughtily suggested the pub for dinner as I hadn't defrosted anything. I was good though and didn't have a pudding!

I have my pelvic scan at 11am which is giving me the collywobbles. I hope it all looks ok, and I hope I can hold my bladder long enough....

Need to do some washing and a general tidy up today. I will make breaded chicken for dinner tonight with salad and stuffed peppers (chips for kids).

Have a lovely day everyone, hugs for those who need them x

    Good morning
Just opened the back door for the dog and made myself a coffee.
Our dog is always happy to say hello/good morning.

Lots of flowers around the house and their different scents.
    x2 vases from the garden.
Last night bought a small pot of flowers in a beautiful box. Canterbury bells.
Overflowing pot of lilac/white bell flowers. Was 5 pounds now YS 1.50.
A biennial flowering plant meaning chimes of gratitude, or faith and consistency.

Adult DD's paintings look like an art gallery on the walls.
The family work well at home made. Lots of my sewing and knitting around. Oh gardening.
Home is what you make of it and has to be constantly worked at.

I went to Tesco late yesterday afternoon ,spent 24 pounds on food. 1.50 on the YS plant. 4 pounds on dog and bought x3 Ariel washing gel. On offer @ 3.75 each.

Well, need to get dressed and begin a brand new day.

Washed breakfast dishes. washed x2 dark clothes, then spin dry and now online.
Done some dead heading in the back garden and summer flowers begin to fade.
    Answered phone and door/parcel man.
    Read paper online, completed surveys.
    Visitors this afternoon.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Good morning all

It's a lovely day here so sheets have been washed and on the line and the next lot are in the machine. I have an occasional bed wetter and I want to get the mattress refreshed, does anyone have any tips?

I'm going to tackle a bit of ironing today - it's much better than leaving it all until the weekend. I also want to run the vacuum downstairs as the dog's hair gets everywhere. Tonight's dinner is freezer surprise :D as I want to run the freezer down and found some unidentified items in there yesterday which should be defrosted now. We have had some good but random meals from freezer surprise :rotfl:

My lot love it now when I bake biscuits - they are having them before bed with a glass of milk so I want to make some more today, perhaps a batch lot. It's a shame they won't freeze though as that would mean they could still have them when I wasn't well enough to make them.

Hope everyone has a good day, I'm going to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace now that everyone has gone for the day and need to make the most of it as the school breaks up tomorrow and then it's six weeks of madness

Good morning everybody  - quite dull and overcast here at the moment, but I'm sure it will clear later as there's good weather forecast for today.

Had to visit the Council Tax/Housing Benefit/Housing Office yesterday after finally hearing that the paperwork had finally been sorted. Oh dear - not totally good news :(. I had a very tiny rise in private pension back in March and took the details into them (good girl!) ............... but then got an horrendous series of letters that went on for a couple of months whereby 'they' suspended ALL payments of CouncilTax/Housing Benefit while they completely re-assessed my claim . I came back from holiday middle of June to find I was being accused of having 'undeclared bank accounts/hidden savings' - love to know where I've got them hidden - and being told that they wanted £4,000+ off me for 'overpayment of benefit'. I provided detailed bank statements/ISA statements/Life Insurance Policy statements to prove my points, but still told that there were 'undeclared accounts' - by this time I felt as though I was :wall:. One of the advisors pointed out a couple of 'long numbers' on a bank statement and demanded account details for them .................. :undecided. Eventually - after many phone calls and formal letters from Bank and Investment Co. - I got confirmation that the 'so-called account numbers' were nothing more than 'Transaction Numbers' used when claiming DD's from the bank. Vindicated at last!!!!! - or so you'd think. I've had both Benefits reinstated but at a lower rate - part of what has already been paid to me is being clawed back - leaving me with even more to pay towards both rent AND Council Tax. The 'pension rise' that was declared was less than £1 and has created endless problems and further hardship :(.

I now feel inclined to appeal their decision and ask for a further Re-assessment, but to be honest I'm scared stiff that they'll make things worse. I wish I'd never joined that blasted Superannuation Scheme in the first place .

So now it's back to examining where on earth I can make any further cuts/raise more money to try to pay off the debts sooner as I hate Debt hanging over my head :(.

Sorry for moaning folks - you've all got your own problems and certainly don't need to listen to mine - but it feels a bit better to 'get it out of my system' :o. :T for reading/listening.

Sorry to hear that some peeps aren't sleeping very well with the evening heat - it's almost like going back to the 'hot flushes'. My poor OH keeps getting kicked/punched as I throw the bedcover off - it's only an empty duvet cover at the moment, but still feels too heavy ;).

Congrats to the gardeners on your produce jardinier.gif - bit more work needed on my own garden before I can start growing anything productive ............ hopefully it'll be ready for next year. Still battling against Brambles/Bindweed/other 'unwanted stuff' sneaking back in despite being treated regularly with Extra Strong Re$olva. I'm digging them out as quick as they re-appear, but given the state of things when I moved in it's only to be expected that they would try to re-invade.

    Plans for today include:
    • Couple of loads of laundry need to be done, but waiting for lovely-downstairs-neighbour to be up and about before putting HSwash.gif on.
    • Need to do a packed lunch of some kind to take out with me this afternoon.
    • Afternoon shift at the CS - I'm going to HAVE to refuse to even look at anything with a view to buying :(. All pennies must now be made to 'work FOR me, instead of AGAINST me' :o. Have got a pile of carrier bags to take in - not sure where these come from as I always use wally-trolley/re-useable bags. Guess it must be OH not taking re-useables out with him OR just accepting them when handed over by cashiers!
    • Supermarket top-up shop needed - it will have to be restricted to 'whoopsies' for bread and cooked meats and a minimum amount of fresh salad (spring onions/red onion). We've got no Marmalade but there half a jar each of Jam and Lemon Curd, so those will do for now.
    • Evening meal will be Gammon/Egg with Oven Chips served with Peas/Sweetcorn. The Gammon was bought as part of an 'Asda 3 for £10' (2 large slices of Gammon/4 Turkey Breast Steaks/6 Pork Loin Steaks) - the Gammon slices were so big that I cut them in half across and managed to get 4 portions out of them :j.
    • Must get around to repairing elastic in wrists of my favourite blouse this evening. It needs 'knicker-elastic' sewing around at wrist level to gather them in again - but will involve the seamstress.gif coming out :(. I want to wear it to go out for 'Afternoon Tea' with my 2 sisters and our three daughters on the 26th, so I need to 'shift my a$re' on this one ;).

Thanks for 'listening' to my whingey-moan  and hope you all have a good day. I will check back in again later this evening - hopefully AFTER I've done the sleeves on that flipping blouse.

    cheers - Lilyplonk xx
