  • Patman you have that completely wrong about diesel tests, but carry on.

The last I heard about the minor fault thing was that the fault will still be logged but a pass will be able to be issued - Good idea as long as people do actually fix the faults and not continue driving around with them.

I can see a lot of fixed penalties being handed out ;)

Which, for once, is a great idea because it might meant that people's headlights are fully working / properly aligned more than once a year

    More information here
More than a thousand diesel cars have been caught without an essential pollution filter that traps deadly particles, according to government figures. But experts warn the rogue practice of removing the filters, which contributes to air pollution-related deaths, could be far more widespread......DPF removal could invalidate car insurance if not declared

Yep, no sign of a clampown on the motor trade mis-selling cars to customers for whom a diesel vehicle is not fit their needs and can result in them either facing a mammoth bill or having to take a lesser cost back street option to keep their vehicle on the road.

Yup. Totally agree. No ownership by the manufacturer to ensure their cars are fit for purose, and no ownership by the dealer to ensure they are not selling the incorrect car for a persons needs.

And no sign of the government making any changes to the MOT regarding DPF removal - despite what the doom and gloom merchants have been saying for several years now.

I'd imagine an emission test would be the best way to check operation of the DPF. presumably it must clean up the emissions to a good extent otherwise what is the point of having one? So assuming it does, just measure that it is doing what it was designed to do; same as with a cat.

They already undergo an emissions test, but it's quite basic and most cars will still pass it with the DPF removed.

Yes well obviously it would need to be a more sensitive emission test but maybe the MoT stations can't do that yet so the check is limited to visual.

Being able to get an MOT test is one thing.

VOSA or an Insurance Company will do more than a visual check when the time comes.
