London to Fiji

There seems to be a variety of options here, none of them particularly cheap!
Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences?

Look at the cost per flight hour travelled.
That is true, the best I can find is around 20 hours and coming in at around £2000 each. Which I suppose is not bad for £100 per hour of flying.
Its complicated though as it seems to be cheaper to individually book say London-Singapore-Sydney-Fiji than any comparison site can put together.Saving and spending in equal measure0 -
when are you hoping to travel?0

A round the world ticket might be worth investigating if you haven't already
Assuming you are coming back - your post leaves open the possibility you are not0 -
Sadly we will be returning, looking to go for a week or so for honeymoon.
Ideally I'm keen to go at the end of this month, so I don't have the luxury of early bird discounts.
The quickest route seems to be via LA, but many of the cheaper options seem to be going via Hong Kong and Singapore (if you book each flight individually)
I am now starting to look at a round the world ticket as many are advertised at £1000 each, but I'll believe it when I see something confirmed.Saving and spending in equal measure0 -
If you book individual flights (as in flights on separate tickets, I assume that's what you mean), then be aware that you carry all the risk in case of missed connections. Having to buy a new ticket at walk-up fare because you miss a connection will likely be very expensive. Of course, you can mitigate the risk greatly if you book stop-overs of one or two days between flights.0

Have been to Fiji on a round the world ticket but the t&cs said needed to visit at least 3 continents and keep flying in the same direction. So Heathrow > LAX > Nadi but back via Sydney > Bangkok - so do check the rules on a round the world ticket as they might not be appropriate unless you can make it a bigger\longer trip.
e.g. BA Oneworld ticket : http://www.oneworld.com/flights/round-the-world-fares/oneworld-explorer
If you go via LA, crossing the date line flying from LAX to Fiji effectively loses a day so keep a careful eye on the actual dates\times of your flight departures and arrivals and accomodation bookings.0 -
Whats with the last minute booking? You wont only have missed the early bird discount but will be paying the disorganised/ emergency premium
If you can get it for £2k with 20 hours of travel then jump at it. A basic search is showing a few fairs around that price but with at least another 10 hours travel which for only 1 weeks holiday will be a killer even in a higher class of travel0 -
Why Fiji? you're looking at £4k before accommodation and food, which I imagine you're not going to want to scrimp on. I may be wrong but I think people tend to stay on outer islands rather than around nadi, so that's extra cost. It'll take you two days, at least to adjust to the time difference.
Why not somewhere a little more obvious like the Maldives, for the price of the flight to Fiji you're going to get something pretty luxurious for a week, plus a direct flight.
Or delay the honeymoon until you have more time, but there are some other amazing places in the South Pacific, the Cook Islands are stunning (Aitutaki in particular)0 -
Well the truth is I really wanted to go to the Maldives, we gave been before and it was paradise. The problem with Maldives this time of year is the weather, there is a very good chance of more than a little rain, we are friends with someone who works in a hotel out there and he sad we could have a 30 minute shower each day, or we could get 5 days of rain!
Its taken me this long to find somewhere that compares! The problem I've found is that no where looks as good, until I found a very cheap, private island in Fiji, this place looks incredible and the nicest place I've ever seen, it also doesn't cost much, so that also appeals.
However the killer is the flights, I was very naive to think I could get them cheap!Saving and spending in equal measure0
