Combi boiler service - been a while

Why do you want to do it before the house is sold? The boiler, like the rest of the house, is sold 'as seen'. All that you need to demonstrate is that it's in working order.
If the buyer wishes to have it checked, then they may do so at their expense.
Would you service a car just before selling it?
It all depends on the buyer. Some buyers might assume that if the boiler hasn't been serviced for years, then it might be unsafe and need replacing. That's a bill of perhaps £1600 that you don't need just after buying a house.
A bit of paper saying that the boiler is working fine may be all that buyer wants to see.
Just because a boiler is working, it doesn't mean it's safe to use.
As for buying a car, I wouldn't buy a car that hasn't been serviced for 3 or 4 years. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
The boiler makers Worcester Bosch do services and repairs at good rates, worth giving them a call first you might be surprised. Number on the website.0

You have a fair point but when you approach retirement you want to eliminate a few future problems. Peace of mind is priceless and also that boiler will likely be in place and have the correct docs when we move.
Plus do the sums
Orig boiler nder £450
Installation costs £0 (things were different then)
Total servicing costs £0
sale of old boiler £127
I make that £323 over 17 years, and yes that's why I'm here on a money saving forum;);)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
When I had my boiler serviced a few years ago he caught the perspex condensate tray leaking. If that had fully gone during winter... Worth the £100 for the service.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

No much to service in todays boilers, but you pay for a check list showing certain things are ok (or Not).........they usually vaccum out a bit of dust but thats about it.0

Indeed. But there is no requirement to provide a gas safety cert when selling a property. It's up to the buyer to make their own enquiries if they wish.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
If in the years the boiler has been giving problems, would probably be worth getting serviced, if it hasn't I would take a gamble and leave it, if you get viewers and few people ask about it, you dont really want to lie and if the feedback is most people are asking you about when the boiler was serviced, if you get costs and it's worth doing the service then might be worth doing.0

At the same time, there's no requirement on anybody to buy your house, or to offer the full asking price.
By saving £70 or so on a boiler service, you may just be putting off a potential buyer. If it sticks, force it.

Hi all
Had the boiler serviced yesterday, and he changed the kitchen tap over for me while he was there and gave the boiler a clean bill of health and certificate for £80 inc. VAT, didnt think it was too bad.
Like Ectophile said, for the sake of £70 or £80 i thought it'd look better to potential buyers
Thanks again0
