Sold car privately, now buyer wants his money back

be careful with this as there is no such thing as "sold as seen" its an old wives tale
when you sell anything even a 12 year old car it has to be fit for purpose
saying that it will cost him more than the car is worth to try and take you to court0 -

Not when selling privately it doesn't.
The only requirements for goods sold privately are that the seller has the legal right to sell and that they are as described.
There is no requirement for goods to be durable or fit for purpose.0 -

yh he has no rights as long as you was honest in the sale0 -
I think the appropriate response is 'go forth and multiply', then ignore.0

5 days later, buyer collects and pays the remainder.
Phone call off him later that day, he complains that
1. Near side front suspension mounting loose
2. Loss of coolant after short drive
3 Engine appears noisy again after short drive when engine is warm
1. Suspension issues should be expected on a 12 year old car, that is why they cost <£1000. It passed MOT so the buyer has no grounds based on that.
2. only iffy part, if the car had a slow coolant leak your daughter should know about this - either your daughter withheld this information or the buyer is lying, (or slim chance the car developed a leak within 5 days of sale - but unlikely as coolant leaks are gradual and don't occur suddenly).
3. LOL, all engines are "noisy" - if there is a genuine mechanical issue then they should have noticed this on the test drive and not 5 days after. In any case, sold as seen, PLUS it's a 12 year old car - it can develop engine problems eventually.0 -
1L is the three cylinder, normally sounds slightly 'odd'.
Also pops the head gasket though, but then again there are other reasons for coolant leaks. But it could be the buyer has thrashed it for 5 days.0 -

This is a private sale between two individuals. Sales of Goods Act isn't applicable. So do not muddy the waters here with false information.
The only come back the buyer would have would be if the vehicle was misrepresented. So long as the daughter described the car honestly and in good faith then no come back.0 -

marc7 has already been back to this thread and admitted that they made a mistake in the post that you have quoted, so apart from increasing your post count and trying to impress others, what exactly was your point arcon5?
And you are incorrect in saying that the SOGA isn't applicable,
Parts of it are not applicable, not all of it.0
