  • I love Christmas :o. Not because of the commercialism but it just seems to be a time when we all seem to slow down, even if it's just for a couple of days. I buy close family token gifts with a limit of £5 per person (have 4 to buy), DH and I have set a limit of £25 to spend on each other and our girls are allowed £100 but because I bought a lot of smellies, nail varnish, Christmas socks, knickers etc in the January sale, I have got an awful lot for my money.

It feels as if my CFS Fibromyalgia may be easing a little and I can't tell you how excited I am at that thought. Before I got ill, I worked full time, ran 25 miles a week and walked my dogs 3 miles every day without fail. During the worst time of this illness, sleeping for most of the day/night was all I could do, making tea exhausted me and made my muscles feel like I had been doing a boxing round so I really hope things are starting to look up. Today I am going to 'attempt' a 10 minute walk around the block and see how that goes, I know I am going to be tired from it due to my total lack of fitness but the complete exhaustion I used to feel seems to have changed a little to feeling tired because I have 'done something' and not the all consuming type (does that make any sense to anyone or am I just waffling)? :rotfl:

Dinner tonight will be cottage pie, the pie bit is already made so just the mash potato and cheese topping to do this afternoon. A nice cheap but filling dinner and Millionaire Shortbread will be on the cards later with a nice cuppa as I made a huge one on Sunday afternoon.

I hope everyone is well and that you all have a fab OS day x

Had a lovely day on Sunday in London - I love walking around when a road has been closed like Regents Street. We spent very little money just a coffee each and shared a cake which felt like an indulgence. At Tower of London had a guided tour and the Beefeater who gave it was very interesting.
The ham and salad when we got home was tasty and aesy to do.
I have put beef stew in the slow cooker and the smell is good - there will be enough to freeze for when DS's arrive home for holidays and are hungry as soon as I get in from work.

You sound really organised and enjoy Christmas OS! I do participate, for others but it doesn't feel the same now I don't have wee ones.

No you're not waffling :A I understand that. It must be incredibly hard going. I hope that walk leaves you ok and refreshed afterwards and if it didn't quite pan out as you wished pat yourself on the back for trying and giving it a go - which is wonderful!

I tackled my laundry pile today and am half way there lol. Have run out of drying space, so I'm happy with my efforts for now. Back at it tomorrow  I even managed a few "spot" cleans and dealt with some mess which is now rather organised haha. ... I looked at the flylady thread and got scared  Alas, I'm not quite at that level yet.

Thank you Katkin, I didn't manage my walk but I did manage to hoover upstairs and our bedroom, did the dusting in our room, gave our bathroom a quick swish over, hoovered and dusted downstairs and popped into Ald!'s for a couple of bits...worn out now but it feels good, the downside is I am noticing 'mess' again, something I haven't noticed for the last two years! :rotfl:

I keep putting off washing my towels as I really struggle to get the dry indoors but will have to tackle it tomorrow otherwise I will have more than one load! I hope yours is going down nicely x

    Good morning all,

Sorry for the quick one but I am in a mad hurry. Just a MOAN: I spend so much time and energy saving and scrimping and as I type I have electricians in, repairing the job that our previous incompetent electrician has done (they failed the house test because of his work on the new kitchen) to the tune of thousands of £s. And we have paid the SOB who did the bad job thousands already, and he has the gall to email us to ask for what we "owe" him.

What's the point in saving when I am being robbed left right and centre?
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Caterina, I'd be emailing him the fail report for the house test and telling him you'll see him in court.

I have a poorly boy off school with the cough and sore throat that is currently doing the rounds. He's in pain, but still eating and drinking so not too worried at the moment. I also ordered my grocery shopping online yesterday for delivery today when I realised he would still be off school so I am saved from the temptation of buying Crimbo extras in the supermarket.

I had an OU assignment that needed to be in by mid day today. Monday was the first day that I actually felt well enough to tackle it, and luckily I finished it and submitted it the same day. I had the company of the poorly one yesterday which may have made it a bit tricky.

We put the Christmas tree up yesterday seeing as we were confined to barracks. The 6ft one is definitely big enough. Thank goodness I didn't choose the 7ft one. I don't usually put the tree up this early, but the small person asked nicely and seeing as we had to stay indoors..... The cat sat under it for an hour being a cat inna forest, but eventually the greedy tummy won and she came out for her dinner.

m_o_s I'm glad you're starting to feel a little more like your usual self. Long may it last.

M-o-s glad you are feeling a bit better, its a terrible affliction, my dear friend in Rl suffers from it.

Cranky hope the boy feels well soon at least he has a shiny tree to look at and wonder whent he cat is going to climb up it :D

I has a tummy bug - not impressed but glad no one else has caught it. Its very debilitating and frustrating. Yesterday I couldnt even crochet :eek: and the tv wouldnt work so I sat and cried. Have lots to do so I wont get bored.

Caterina, threats of legal action may well shut the electrician up.

Caterina, I would send him a copy of the failure notice, plus the other sparkie's bill and ask him to refund you the extra costs you have incurred due to his incompetence. I would also contact the NICEIC to report his poor workmanship http://www.niceic.com/

  • caterina, how awful you have been treated in such a shoddy way, like the others have said, I would report him and be asking for a refund!

Today is an easy day for me as I am off to London tomorrow to see eldest DD. I did have to pop to the pet shop as youngest DD informed me her Bonbons (house rabbits) were running out of hay, why she leaves it until the very last minute is beyond me, she also 'forgets' to tell me when more food is needed for her cockatiel even though she knows I have to order it and it can take 4-5 days to come through!

Dinner tonight is going to be home made chicken and leek pie (made a few weeks ago and frozen so nice and easy), filled out with lots of fresh veg and for me, lots of cabbage! :rotfl: DH has requested flap jacks as his treat for next weeks pack lunches so I need to find an easy but nice recipe, surprising how much money you can save by making them yourself. DD wants to make some bread pudding when she comes ho e so I have made sure I have all the ingredients, it is a very cheap and filling treat but never seems to hang around here for very long.

Finances have been sorted for the next 7 weeks during the change over from weekly pay to monthly pay and I have dared anyone to touch the accounts without permission! :D. We are waiting for a small payment back from the pet insurance company, only going to be £40/£50 but I haven't budgeted for this coming back in so this will go straight into the savings account.

I bought my turkey for Christmas yesterday and by using my Ald! £10 off a £60 shop, I essentially got it free :j

I hope you all manage to have a lovely day x

    Thanks all,

DH and I are planning to write to the first electrician and say that we had a fail because of his shoddy work and will send him details of costs for repairs and request the difference from what we "owe" him to be repaid to us for all that had to be rectified.

Floss unfortunately I cannot do anything with NICEIC because you can only do it if no other contractors have handled the work, but we could not wait anymore and had to get someone in!

Sorry for not many comments today, am totally wiped out by a four-hour questionnaire that I had to fill for the mystery dinner visit I did last night. It was for 4 people and in truth it was delicious, but they really want masses of details (fair enough, they want something for the £140 worth of food we ate!). But how many synonyms for "succulent, crispy, tender" etc... can one think of? LOL

I like writing about food so it is no hardship, but sometimes the level of details requested is difficult to remember in its finest particulars.

Never mind, it is a lot better than sitting in an office!

Happy note, it is a NSD (if you exclude the massive bill that we will get from the electricians).

Unhappy note, wall to wall carbs for breakfast and lunch as no chance of cooking with the electricians in the kitchen until a short while ago. I hope DH and DS will be happy with salad!

Babysitting the girls later on, so will say good night now. x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
