I'm amazed that everyone assumes the OP was driving around with 3 bald tyres just because the Kwik Fit MOT tester said they needed replacing.

I'm guessing they had at least 4mm of tread left. ;)

Me too... hence my 'possibly, this is Kwik-Fit after all' comment in last post :)

I'm just amazed it didn't need four. And brake discs and pads all round. And some shocks. And the AC regassing to pass the new MOT 'air coolness' check.

Amazed nobody has yet taken issue with the act of replacing 3 tyres! OP, tyres should preferably be in matched pairs so that the same type (tread pattern/compound etc.) is at least on both front wheels or both rear wheels. This is especially relevant given that your fourth tyre will also be more worn relative to the brand new one that is opposite it.

As an aside, re Eurocarparts, they are the same company as carparts4less.co.uk, which is online only and has their best prices...

I have often had odd tyres (branded) on the same axle. its a company car and if I get a puncture the depot can only fit what they have to replace it

In 30000 miles a year driving I can say i have never noticed any difference

While we're beating kwikfit over the head, a word of warning, you should also look out for the fitter who uses a pneumatic air gun on the wheel nuts. Not only does this overtighten the wheel nuts, but when they used it on my locking wheel nut tool, the pneumatic gun broke one of the pins rendering it useless. I never noticed till the following year, so put I it down to experience!!!

I went there a few years back as I needed a tyre in a hurry and it was the only place open on a Sunday. Imagine my surprise when after inspecting the car they told me I needed new disks and pads - especially since I had only just done them myself a couple of weeks before! They doubled back by saying they must have got confused with one of the other cars in there.

There is no excuse for this. It is idleness and incompetence. Those tools should not be left on the maximum torque setting as a matter of course.
