surely he was 16 in november 2005 so that falls within the dates on their publicity. i.e between september 2005 and August 2006. These dates are to qualify you for payment from September 2006 not for you to start receiving ema on your 16th birthday.0

By their interpretation of the regulations he will not recieve any payment until November 2006, and the new academic year when he will be 17.The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
Now I think I understand. I've just spoken to one of the managers at the EMA centre.
It appears that the actual rules are that a child has to have completed their compulsory education before they are entitled to EMA. i.e. they can't receive it before they have completed their GCSE's. It has to be after this, when they can choose to leave school. Age is a side issue. The atmosphere is currently filled with hypocrisy so thick that it could be sliced, wrapped, and sold in supermarkets for a decent price and labeled, 'Wholegrain Left-Wing, Middle-Class, Politically-Correct Organic Hypocrisy'.0 -
that's what i was trying to say the dates are the qualifying period for the child to receive ema from 1st September 2006. You can not start receiving ema from your birthday, it is based on the acedemic school year.
When you have left year 11, then and only then can you receive ema payments regardless of the date of your 16th birthday within that year.
The person at the ema did not explain themselves very well.
Also at the college I work at the ema is not automatic, there has to be 100% attendance to enable the student to recieve the ema. You can be sick 3 times in the year before ema is not paid for those weeks. The student also qualifies for a bonus of £100 twice in the first year for attendance and progression on the course, then three times in the second year. It is not money for nothing, there has to be commitment form the student.0 -
We do not qualify for any EMA and it is hard for DD seeing her friends getting performance related pay as well as their weekly allowance. By the time all the forms have been checked and incomes probed etc I am sure that it would be better to give it to all the kids rather than penalising families who are just above the threshold. However this money has been made available for then to get good grades and to go to university when they have to pay tuition fees and will end up with huge debt.0

i applied for EMA but i was just above the amount, and because they use last years income i find it unfair as my dad is now unemployed and dosen't seam very confident hell get a job easily because of his age. I need money for travel and for art equiptment (as the collage dosen't own much art equiptment) and then theres equiptment for my other subjects as well.
--yeah yeah i could get a job but cos of my age it will be low pay and i do have other comitments like music lessons-(cost money).
Any one know any other funding thats available.
sorry for going on so much:o0 -
When does the EMA payment stop? Is it just for the school year? while doing A levels for example?
Am I also right in thinking that childbenefit is paid until 19, if the `child` is in fulltime education?
ThanksApril Grocery challange £175
Spent week 1 £29.90
week 2 £62.64, TOTAL £92.540 -

Just to let people know, I'm a trained volunteer advisor for young people (13 to 25) so if anyone needs a hand at working out what they are / aren't entitled to, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll help if I can
I can deal with EMA, JSA, IS and Housing. No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
I think this is a good idea but totally disagree with the parents wages been taking into consideration as it is the child staying on at school not the parent so surely the child should not be penalised for parents having a good wage. The scheme should be every 16 year old staying on at school should get the same amount and that keeps them all the same. As it is at the minute your son /daughter could be getting £10 a week and the person sitting next to your son/ daughter is getting £20 or even £30 a week for doing the same course. Where is the fairness in that. But just typical of the govenment.0
