Uk Christmas Market sort of holiday

Hi All

I'm after advice please, not sure were to look for it either but the users here have been great with lots of questions I have had so I'm going to ask again.

After September I'll have broken free of my stupid young days loan and want to get away, november or december for a nice weekend some were Christmas Market style shopping.

I don't have a passport currently and I may or may not have one by then.

I live in manchester, and we have a really nice one here but I'd like to get away and see some were else for it

Not sure on budget but would I'm thinking finding a location to go to, then hotel cost then deciding do I drive there or go by some other form

So please fire away (And sorry for being a little organised about christmas - I'm just really looking forward to this as it will be my first one I can do without really looking at what DD's I have to go out.

  • If you need to stay in the UK, Lincoln is lovely. I believe their Christmas Market is usually a weekend in early December.

If you can go abroad, Bruges (Belgium) is lovely at Christmas. If you are going alone it is probably cheaper to fly or Eurostar but if you are going as a group then taking a car on the Eurotunnel may be an option - plus you could bring lots of presents back!

Lincoln has a great Christmas market which I'd recommend.
Ludlow has one in the grounds of Ludlow Castle which you have to pay to get into.

Or Bath has one at the end of November/beginning December

    Rochester in Kent
Easy to get to by road or train.
It has a special Christmas Dickens weekend in early December complete with Dickens characters , bands, loads of stalls in the market, victorian carollers and if there's no snow there is artifical snow. It is in the (still cobbled) main street which also has a castle and a cathedral and if after all that Victorian cheer you want to finish your Christmas shopping 21st century style the massive Bluewater shopping centre is in easy reach.

The market is on for a couple of weeks but the best time to go is the first weekend in December when the festival is on too http://www.visitkent.co.uk/events/9577/

If you decide on Lincoln and there is anything you need to know just ask

( I live round the corner from it )

Bear in mind the hotels will get booked up very early

As a Bath resident I'd rather gouge my own eyes out with a spoon than go round our Christmas Market - its over crammed into a small space and far too many people visiting it. My experience when I have been is of being driven along by the crowds in a claustrophobic and almost frightening manner - stopping to look at the stalls becomes a matter of trying to get out of the rush.

As a non-Bath resident I agree with this view ...

Also, for all the publicity it receives, the Bath market is actually quite small. After all I had heard about it I expected it to be a lot bigger than it is. The only thing I could find to buy was a decoration for the Christmas tree that I bought from the Christmas shop, which is open all year round, and is not even in the market ... The market itself is seriously over priced :(
