Cheers for the offer Imp - may take you up on that.
I'll rule Bath out on that then - I'm not a massive fan of small over crowded areas.
Lincoln's does look quite decent - Might have a look dates and see whats what.0 -
Another vote here for Edinburgh, with the German market, ice rink and various fairground rides in the shadow of the castle.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

Depends on what sort of accommodation you book, and how far in advance you book it.
Your thread prompted me to look into and make my own arrangements for a Christmas fayre this year. I've decided upon the Bury St Edmonds Christmas Fayre which runs from 27 to 30 November. Not been before, but the info from the website makes it look appealing. I've booked a room with a Travelodge that is a few miles outside of Bury St Edmonds for the Saturday 29 November at a cost of £32 for the night. A local b&b would have been £60 for the same night. However, these prices will obviously go up the closer it gets to the 29 November.
Likewise, only you know your fuel consumption. Mine will be roughly £50. Use RAC or AA website to do a route finder to calculate distances from your home to whichever town's Christmas market you decide to go to, then you can work out your own fuel costs.Smiles are as perfect a gift as hugs...
..one size fits all... and nobody minds if you give it back.☆.。.:*・° Housework is so much easier without the clutter ☆.。.:*・°SPC No. 5180 -
Birmingham also has a large Christmas market although I thought it was hell on earth it was so crowded. Easy to get to from manchester though and lots of other things to do.0

I agree with the other posts about Bath. Winchester has a lovely Christmas market - it is set up around the cathedral with an ice rink in the middle. The high street is just behind and is lovely too. I believe a new premier inn is also opening up that's within walking distance of the city centre0

how about york and easy to get to by train from manchester, the travelodge was ok there0

Costs are racking up .... what about going abroad and doing "a proper one"?0

I live in Birmingham - the markets do get very crowded. I think it is a good market though. Last time I went to the Manchester one it was worse? Was so busy I was moved by a crowd and unable to stop or move any other direction in one part, bit scary. Going earlier will probably be less manic than late December!Trying to lose weight (13.5lb to go)0
