Then clearly the obvious thing to do is get your own back and make life as difficult as possible for them now.
Write back, denying that any sale has taken place.
Then go to an estate agents and place the property on the market again. With luck, since it is still registered in your name, you should be able to net another £256K (or whatever).

I like your thinking! Haha...
Our old house has not appeared on Land Registry list as sold properties yet due to this0 -

The buyers won't be able to register title to their property
The buyers' lenders won't be liable to register a charge over the property.
And I don't know what's normal in English contracts, but I expect they can force you to sign a replacement deed.0 -

Thanks for the reply Davidmcn...
I just wanted them to sweat alittle for a change I would sign it once they get alittle shirtly. I'm a soppy git that believes in karma so I believe it has just come around but dont push it too far I'm thinking.0 -
If they've been that akward to you, send them a £500 invoice for your admin fees associated with the time spent preparing a replacement document for them, payable in advance.0

I'm another who'd make them sweat. In fact I'd be sure to make them sweat a LOT before doing the honourable thing eventually.Pants0

I'm not sure how knowledgeable the other posters who posted on this thread are, but personally I 've no idea if it is dodgy or not.
I'd certainly be asking my conveyancer for advice. This sounds like the kind of mistake that is noticed at completion, not months down the line ??
ps. i certainly agree with other posters regarding delaying your response. I would make them do some work for this favour you are granting them - i'm sure you could stretch this whole process to at least half a dozen clarification letters etc0
