My MrT christmas shopping has arrived :j
The only thing that was substituted was a red cabbage and they have given me a white one instead
I was going to do braised red cabbage with redcurrant but not sure if it would work with the white cabbage... It would be pink... Not sure if I want pink food on my Christmas dinner plate :rotfl:
So does anyone have any great ideas of something interesting I can do with my white cabbage, other than coleslaw on boxing day

I have found loads of suggestions for white cabbage recipes and it would appear it is ideal for Christmas. I would link to certain recipes but ideally put "recipes for white cabbage" in your search engine...they say that it is a sweet tasting vegetable. So you may find it works better than the original idea...good luck!"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

my nan used to cook the white cabbage in boiling water like normal cabbage, but once drained, chop it roughly with a knife and add butter and season with salt n pepper. you could add chestnuts or cranberries to it.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!

That sounds about right scaredy_cat. Even I am learning some new ideas and something like cabbage can do such a lot. And depending on what it is mixed with so many different combinations."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I wouldnt put this with christmas dinner - but blanched white cabbage stir fried with onions garlic and ginger is absolutely gorgeous
for christmas dinner I would cook it until just tender, drain, add butter and pepper and heat until the butter has melted. then serve.0 -

This gets my vote, it's always a hit when served up in our house.
Tastes even better if done with steamed savoy cabbage, then quickly added to the fried onion and lardons/streaky bacon for a minute in a wok with the salt and pepper at the end. Yum yum, am starving now off to look in kitchen.:j DEBT FREE FROM 01/01/11 :j

Please help! I've got 2 cabbages here, a savoy one and a chinese one and I have no idea what to make with them! I normally just boil cabbage and have with a sunday roast but the kids won't eat it. Is there anything else you can actually do with cabbage that the kids might be tempted to actually eat?SAHM to 4 Little Monkeys
