If you don't ever ask, how would anyone know where to start? While expecting some magic average value to be given is daft, asking questions is surely the way to get started with anything.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?

Yes, but the OP got answers and didnt take them in
Id start with a trip to the gym. Ive only been lifting just less than a year and I do have some background in fitness, but I still need support from a gym instructor/PT
Doesnt matter what the average person can lift. When I started deadlifting I lifted 30, I now lift 72.5 and I expect that over the next few months I'll get to 100kgs
A good personal trainer will be able to tell a lot from how you do certain exercises. When I was squatting with 40kgs recently he could tell from my technique that I had tight hip flexors
So many people pick up weights, fling them around and think theyve got themselves a gym programme going on, safety first really0 -

Aside from the fact that the thread's clearly a wind up, I do feel people are being harsh on the OP.
It's not unreasonable for someone to say "what's a good weight for a bloke to curl?"
I don't do many weights, but I do a bit of running. I'm happy to say that if a bloke's running a sub-20 5 k, or a sub-42 10k, they're doing pretty well. I used to row a bit, I can say that if you're doing 2k in 7 minutes, you're doing well.
Of course, *all of these* are dependent on people's individual physique etc, but it doesn't mean they're not reasonable milestones for people to aim at....0 -
