I want to get stronger, what weight of dumbbell should I use?

What is considered the average dumbbell curl for a male?

Thanks

There is no average. Guy A weighs 10 stone and can curl 15kg dumbells Guy B is 16 stone can curl 25kg dumbells. Every person is different

There is no average because everyone is different. Why not book a gym induction, or a personal trainer, to see what works for you?

    Average is completely irrelevant.

I doubt 20kg is the average - but even if it is, that doesn't matter if you can't lift it! On the other hand, if you can lift 20kg like it's a feather, you need something heavier.

If you took all the men, took the weight they could manager, and divide by the total number of men, what weight would be the answer?

If you can lift a dumbbell for 8-10 repetitions and it feels comfortable/easy, then up the weight a little bit. So for example, if you use a dumbbells that weigh 10kg each, but they feel easy to lift for 8-10, up the weight to 12kg dumbbells each and aim for 8-10 reps again. If this time it feels harder when you're lifting the last few reps, then that's the weight you want to continue to use until that becomes easier. But make sure to maintain technique. If a weight is too heavy for you, then put it back and go lower.

You can do it with tins of beans .... just lots of times. In fact you'll do less/no damage doing it that way too.
