Do Halfords fit car bulbs ?

Halfords can be good... if you have a trade card.
Bulb: Was £2.49, down to 49p.
Another was about £7.99 but went down to less than £2.0 -
Or....
If you have AA or RAC membership....
get them to replace it, the AA only charge for headlight bulbs and RAC charge for all bulbs but do not charge for fitting them.
Do all the breakdown outfits change bulbs? And does it have to be dark for blown headlight/side light/rear light to count as a breakdown?0 -
Gotta say, this is the first time i've ever heard of breakdown recovery changing bulbs.0

I think you will find the word 'breakdown' gives you a clue. But to be on the safe side, I'm sure the breakdown company will have terms and conditions you can consult. And the telephone operator will in all probability tell you if you are covered when you are asked what the problem is.
But be prepared for all the laughing.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Anything that renders the car unroadworthy?0 -
I'm 50/50 on this.
I worked for Halfords for a few years when they introduced "We Fit", I recall it was targetted heavily, staff were expected to convert x-bulb sales to fittings as essentially it was free money in the majority of cases as it could take seconds to fit a bulb (already sold at a 1000% markup). There was, although I don't know if it still exists a staff incentive where staff were paid around £1 for each converted sale, at the end of the week the store manager would tally-up the "Spiv cards" and it was paid in cash out of the till. Wiper blade fittings were an even greater money spinner and staff would easily clear £20 a day in cash bonus during prolonged periods of rain!
..... There were staff who also charged cash in the car park to fit things in their breaks.... I'll let you think about that.
There are a fair number of uninterested teenagers doing tasks with no skill or consideration but a lot of knowledge is held by a few staff in the organisation. The store I worked in initially had a retired dealer master-tech as a full time fitter, the store manager had a decent degree in mechanical engineering and myself who is pretty handy with the spanners.
We used to get "spoken down to constantly" and found it generally wasn't worth arguing with a lot of customers, no matter how incorrect they were.0 -
OP - if you were closer to durham id of done it for nowt for you.. its easy on a corsaSealed pot challenger # 10

OP, halfords wanted to bill me to fit wiper blades - & I'm of the short & built for comfort style. So, this womble thought it was not MSE to pay, watched a handful of YouTube videos, managed it myself & walked 8" taller that week!
Tail lights? The Haynes manual can be your friend - after an injudicious manoeuvre, I managed to punch a hole though the light unit as well as the bulb. I got directions to a scapper, was sold a matching pair of tail light units (which was MS anyway & embarrassingly useful a month later), told who did bulbs at sensible prices & within the day had figured it all out myself. On a Mondeo which is a friendly spacious car to fix bulbs on.
Don't assume halfords has a monopoly on competence, just on the nerve to bill you when yours is low! YouTube and Haynes (try the library? Or Google?) are your friends!0 -
Mondeo headlights are a doddle to change, mine went like this:-
1. remove plug,
2. lift up 2 locking tabs,
3. remove headlight unit,
4. change bulb inside in the dry/light/warmth of your house,
5. refit headlight unit, lowering locking tabs,
6. check lights, find they don't work
7. scratch head,
8. fit plug onto headlight,
9. check lights find they do work!!0
