Do people who use Halford's for this stuff call in handymen to replace bulbs in their home, because honestly thats how easy it is. The handbook gives you instructions.

My old work (a competitor of halfords) used to fit but we charged less than £2 for bulb and fitting as it takes seconds.

Headlights are a different story but id still avoid Halfords. build a relationship with a local garage. Get MOT's servicing etc done there and when this happens they will more often than not do it as a courtesy to you as a loyal customer. Using Halfords is about the most anti-MSE thing you can do.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

That "In a few seconds" is a bit of a sweeping statement. A ford focus Cmax will certainly take more than a few seconds. I have used Halfords in the past, quick and reliable but you do pay for the convenience:cool:

I'd like to see how you get on fitting the rear offside lights on my scenic.

In a small storage compartment which I struggle to get my hand in cannot see what you are doing and drop the bulb you are in trouble.

Paying someone else to save me the stress of it is money well spent.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

it takes seconds if you are doing the same car day in day out. but if you have to service all cars then each car is going to be unique and the fitter will need to work out how each car works.

obviosly if someone is working there and the go to "bulb guy" they'll amass enough experience to be familiar with all the cars. But I dont think halfords has that type of operation.

Try finding you need to replace a bulb on the Saturday, before osteo surgery, first thing on the on Monday morning! - I simply didn't have the mobility or inclination to go through the pain of changing a bulb, nor the time to sort-out someone else to change it before admission. Halfords was worth the price at that point!

I once used them to fit a replacement nearside dipped headlight bulb on my old Astra (2008 plate) ... that bulb was a biatch to fit (due to the battery housing) so I thought is was worth the extra to get them to do it. (Offside bulbs were easy to do).

As to the Corsa - do these links help?

  • Halfords do sometimes have special offers.

Only two weeks ago I needed a headlight bulb, which was £16.95 for one, but they had an offer in store of £25 for 2 fitted.

..I don't know about the Corsa but the later >2005 Astras the whole cluster had to be removed to change the bulb, sounds drastic but it wasn't really, but then if you are not handy with DIY, perhaps you may know somebody that will change it for you, only takes a few minutes.
On my 2006 Golf MarkV, the whole rear cluster needs to be removed too but, as that only requires two easily accessible plastic nuts to be unscrewed and the wiring plug unclipped, it is a doddle.

Hopefully a Corsa will be as easy but I can't comment on that.

OP, read up on how easy or hard it might be and give it a go yourself if it looks within your capabilities.

Or get a car enthusiast mate to help you. Plenty of people enjoy doing things like that.

I had a Corsa as my first car, it really was easy to replace the bulbs. It's worth having a quick practice run at home, then if you really can't do it then get Halfords to sort it for you.

Halfords prices are very high, I recently had to get new wiper blades for my Octavia, I looked at Halfords prices and found the same blades on line for half the price, plus the website I got them from had a very handy guide on how to replace them.

Google is your friend. Have a look on there first and save a few quid.

I personally wouldn't let any of the spanners in Halford's near my car, let alone change a bulb.

Never owned a Corsa, but I bet it's dead straightforward. Google Corsa bulb change, there will be dozens, if not hundreds of guides, photos, videos etc.

Hell, if you're that bothered, buy a Haynes manual. Can't go wrong.
