Finance...that's the only thing they got0

Have you checked that your mother is ok, aside from the debt issue?0

Due to her illness she has disowned us and refuses to communicate with us...total nightmare0

OP, just give it time and stick to not contacting her, she will eventually come round. I would ignore your sister too.
My OH has an ongoing battle with his family. He is not speaking to any of them, all over one of his brothers dying and the animosity between the SIL and his mother. She likes to infterfere, SIL doesn't like it, so has cut her off from 2 grandchildren. It was his mothers fault for starting the argument, but she wont accept it. He is better off without the hassle.
Do know what you are going through OP0 -

I would treat the debt as being the cost you are (sadly) paying as part of her illness and write it off. You did the right thing to help her, but it isn't your Mum who is reneging on the debt, it's the illness. Just tell yourself that you've bought her birthday or Christmas present in advance and leave it there. Inappropriate attitudes to spending seem to go hand in hand with mental health issues - I was once bought about £150 of perfume and cosmetics as a thank you gift for making a dessert for a dinner party by a family friend who suffered from manic depression and schizophrenia. He also punched my boyfriend for not teaching me how to play golf and tried to sexually attack me on several occasions. I never blamed him for any of it as I knew it wasn't the real George, who I had known all my life, who was doing this but his illness.0 -

That's a very nice get out clause....Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0
