lorry parking
I will post on motoring but not sure if this is in the right place.
at the end of my road is a kind of lay-by , bus stop. Most mornings for the last couple of months when I drive to work there is a truck parked in it.
Not a hgv parked overnight with a driver sleeping ...It is usually a skip truck..fully loaded and ready to go to the tip ..this morning was a larger roll on /off skip ready fully loaded .no one is in the vehicle.
I am not so zealous as to stop some poor guy from doing his job ..But surely a commercial vehicle should be kept on site ?
So are there any restrictions on parking overnight ?

Part of the O licence requirement is that the lorry should have somewhere on-site to park over night. I would report this.
Couple of neighbours did this when an Iceland home delivery van used to park right on edge of corner every night making it impossible to see if anything was coming. It stopped parking after the complaint got fed through. Obviously Iceland send the vans home with staff at night and don't give a f**k what misery they cause.0 -
when you say report ...Who do you mean I report it to ?0

Is the lorry causing a problem where it is, presumably its gone by 7am at the latest and not left there over the weekend?
Thing is if its not causing a problem (such as junction visibility in the above post) i don't see the problem for you personally, maybe a bit of live and let live here, i doubt it will be there indefinately.0 -
Why do you think its parked overnight?
Maybe he is calling in somewhere for his breakfast.
Or the driver has an elderly or infirm relative who lives close that he pops in to check all is well every morning.
Or perhaps a mistress?0 -
Sounds like NIMBYism to me.
sadly too many neighborhoods these days see 'their' road as exclusive to them as opposed to a public highway maintained by the public purse by every single tax payer in the country.0 -
You really need to research this rather than make assumptions.
You say most mornings - so it's how many 3 a week?
What time does the truck arrive?
If he's loaded ready for the tip - what time does the tip open?
The driver must stop for a break - maybe the layby is convenient for him - especially if he starts a good bit earlier than you.0 -
There's a vehicle removals lorry that is always parked near a junction in the mornings (single yellow). It parks there on the evening and removes it early morning. Absolutely annoying when I'm trying to drive in and it's blocking my path.0

Ok ..so I have had the usual complaints about some poor guy's half dead relative or me not liking the shade of rust down the side of the cab.
Did anyone possibly LeeUK have an answer to my question ?
Rather than get all judgemental on me ...when it happens across from you ..take the high road and leave it ...But otherwise just leave me to make my choice ..It is nothing either way to anyone else really...I am pretty sure I can live with the consequences of whatever I do next.
I am more concerned that a company would see fit to use my street as parking for it's equipment ..It has nothing to do with the driver really ..0 -
Complain to council or even your local councillor if the company who owns the HGV won't do anything. Also complain to VOSA who issue O licences for HGVs.0

You haven't picked up on any my points.
LeeUK is right - a truck operator needs a base to operate from and keep the vehicles overnight.
But is the truck really there 'overnight' - it might just be for a couple of hours and co-incidentally with the time you set off for work.
Is it there at mid-night for example?0
