AlMac - Here's a first, I totally agree with you!
The curse of apathy. The fact that people would rather pay First Direct a tenner each Month than move just about sums it up. And I presume that for every ten customers who threaten to move business, only one actually does it, hence the Banks 'Am I bovvered' approach.
Make the most of this post, I am sure we will soon be back with our usual differing opinions.:rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Worse still Dylanwing, they only have to transfer £1 to first directs savings account to avoid the charge. not doing a few mouse clicks, now thats apathy...0

Virgin did the same thing to me. I found you can get a token satisfaction from shutting your account down rapidly. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
to be honest it is very frustrating and upsetting all of this
what you have to remember is that financial companies are profitable companies to make billions of pounds a year.
although in your opinion you only made one mistake they have every right to do what they have done
dont get me wrong I empathise with you and I feel the current system of complaining is rubbish, (as it inevitably incurs YOU with costs, even if it is the other way round and the company have mada a mistake)
You really need to make sure that you pay the minimum payments every month, this is so important. As Martin has said you can treat every missed payment as £1,000 as this is what it typically could turn out to be in the future (as in you may be rejected a lower rate loan in the future because of this)
just pay by DD i would advise this to every one until november (where you will be able to make instant transfers). This way if they muck up, you can get a refund instantly. And you also know that you are covered, and wil not forget
You can write to the company and ask them for your credit file to be ammended, and explain the circumstances and that you paid it the same day e.t.c. they may ammend the credit history.INCREASE INTEREST ON SAVINGS!
...I will thank you if youve been helpful, please do the same! :j0 -

Personally me I hate any DD, so just make a payment every month. But i think b4 bank issue any charge they have at least write a letter with the request of minimum payment.
Why november? And do you mean balance transfer on credit card?0 -
No sympathy I'm afraid, Halifax haven't done anything wrong - just sticking to the t&cs you agreed to. Best just to put it down to experience and move on.0

In most cases apathy and a bit of work prevents people from moving.
I wouldn't call MSE, much as I love it, being plastered over the net.
More people would be swayed by the £100 sign up for new customers. And would see this as a mistake "I" wouldn't make.
People need to learn from their and others mistakes, people don't.
I never gave my views on apathy etc.
I was stating the fact that if someone were to move their accounts, it would cost the Halifax more than the £12 they are gaining.
Whilst people are reluctant to move accounts, I would guess (Only guessing) that more are doing it more than before?Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Thanks for your input. Like I said before, yes, it was an oversight. One of those things about never getting round to setting up that ever so simple DD instruction. And yes, It is our fault, I agree. But like what others have said, with me moving all my accounts elsewhere, how much has that really cost them?

They really won't care! You're hardly going to affect their profits now are you (how many £billion did they make last year?).indian_jalepeno wrote: »But like what others have said, with me moving all my accounts elsewhere, how much has that really cost them?
After all, you'll be replaced by 5 more customers moving in for the 'brand new customers only' products...and at least one of them will make the same mistake you have.
I'm sorry, but that's the way it is with financial providers. Move your poor products (why haven't you done it before?), but don't cut your nose off to spite your face.

I must admit any bank that has p***ed me off I have dumped them and moved to another, fortunately I haven't had to do this in at least 8 years now0
