Phone left in Taxi In Amsterdam

Suspect this thread has served its purpose, nothing short of everyone boo-hoo-ing and having a whip round to buy OP a new replacement phone s likely to satisfy.
Could be done, but looking at the OP's other threads, they often have a moan at respondants not typing what they want to read.
Yes it's a shame that the child has mislaid the handset, and other than the advice posted earlier in the thread, there is little more anyone can do.0 -
That's always the trouble with internet forums, you do get useful answers but often buried in judgemental tripe or waste of bandwidth replies like "you should have been more careful" (duh - really??).I would like to thank the people who have helped but not those who just answered to give snotty remarks and have a 'hidden behind their computer' argument and all this rubbish about be more careful in future as if that in anyway helpful this forum can be great for helping out but it is also full of very odd people who offer nothing except snidey remarks, poor them, must be the only bit of excitement they get in their day.
Just learn to ignore the carp.0 -
My son has been in Amsterdam for about 3 hours and jumped in a taxi to go to a Different part of the City and has left his 2 month old iphone 5 (on a 24 month contract) on the back seat. We cant ring it as its mobile network is turned off (due to being abroad) what can he do and what should he do ? thanks.
Usually, taxis in Amsterdam are taken from a taxi rank. If so, he can revisit the rank and ask for information.
I've just noted this has already been mentioned..0 -

Have some cheese to go with your whine. I'm amazed you have a son old enough to go abroad without you. You sound like a sulky teenager with poor manners.
That said -we were in NYC for the day (long layover) and one of our party dropped her phone in the street in the middle of Manhattan not realising til later.
We wrote it off as gone but two days later her daughter back in England got a call from the person who found the phone. They didn't speak English so took it to a friend and they went through the address book and found the daughter's number. It took a while as the phone needed to be shipped as we were already on the West coast by then........but there are some honest people out there.
Make sure he files a police report in case it is found and handed to the police as they won't bother tracing it if it doesn't match up to a filed report.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

You mention carp, where is the post that said should have been more careful?0 -

More than "some", IME it's "most". And not only honest, but also people that go out of their way to get your stuff back. I once left my glasses in a hostel room in Australia, by the time I realised I was 500 miles away, and would be leaving for home the next day. They sent them all the way back to the UK. I contacted them to thank them and offered to pay for the postage but they wouldn't take anything! That said -we were in NYC for the day (long layover) and one of our party dropped her phone in the street in the middle of Manhattan not realising til later.

Yes, and this is also required if there's any insurance claim.Make sure he files a police report in case it is found and handed to the police as they won't bother tracing it if it doesn't match up to a filed report.0 -
Oh, so you're a pedant as well as a sanctimonious little keyboard warrior? Well, OK. I'll play your little game, and out-pedant you.
I said "like", ie "similar to". A post which says "be more careful in future" is similar to "should have been more careful".:p
They are not similar , if I or anyone had said "should have been more careful" then your pointless attack would have been correct, the OP asked what they can do? the correct reply was "be more careful in future".
It is difficult to argue that the OP or anyone else in future shouldn't be more careful.
The question about carp was posted for a reason, it appears it is you that is being judgemental and posting carp on this occasion. In over 20 years of owning a mobile, I have never lost 1 and neither has many (the majority ever lost a mobile device) I suppose it is down to being careful rather than pure luck, nowadays I buy the handset outright from new and do not purchase insurance, so I make sure I am careful. , it's just a method that works for me (being careful) and that's why I and others recommend it.0 -
Duh - really? Do you really think the OP hasn't already worked that one out? Actually don't waste more bandwidth answering, I'm really not interested. You would be surprised, and perhaps not , a lot of posts on the board are made up of people who have been careless in some way,
you could save bandwidth by offering to pay for a replacement handset for the OP.0
