Phone left in Taxi In Amsterdam

You've got a good chance of getting it back - most people are honest, contrary to popular belief. Happened to me a few times over the years with phones and other items and I've always got them back. Last time with a phone on a coach - I contacted the coach company and they found it and arranged for it to be dropped off at the local coach station where we were staying.
The bold part is what is concerning, sounds like carelessness, anyways it was a happy ending for you and hopefully maybe a happy ending for the OP, realistically though , if an item is precious to somebody then they should not be careless with it, the handset is mislaid and it is nobody's fault but the owner, not the taxi firm, not the finder. Yes we can lose things from time to time, but it's our own responsibilty.0 -
Nobody suggested it's anyone else's fault, did they? I was pointing out that there are honest and helpful people out there and that the OP could well get the phone back. But thanks anyway for the sanctimonious lecture, I'll be sure to learn from it. And congratulations on your typing skills when your head is so far up your a*** :rotfl:The bold part is what is concerning, sounds like carelessness, anyways it was a happy ending for you and hopefully maybe a happy ending for the OP, realistically though , if an item is precious to somebody then they should not be careless with it, the handset is mislaid and it is nobody's fault but the owner, not the taxi firm, not the finder. OP, it may sound blunt, to the point and harsh. But lets assume phone is lost and never recovered, or that the insurance company wont replace it due to the way it was lost. What other advice can be given other than to buy a new one and take more care of it?Yes and a totally useless comment so why say it ? Made you feel better has it ? Well done.
Its of no use coming on here asking for advice only to bark at those who offer it, had you have remembered to include in your OP; "apart from the obvious replace and look after it advice", which you didn't include, members are likely to add the obvious and pretty much ONLY option other than reporting it as lost.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Yourself and the OP are in effect, it is not any of the reader's problem either is it? It is not OK to be careless with items , and yes we know sometimes items may reach their owner, however in your fantasy world you won't accept that it is just a slim chance, iphones are only of value to those that cannot afford them , it's nothing to do with being suck up your rear. As for sanctimonious? That appears to be just yourself and the OP and possibly a few others, whether you like it or not post #2 is the correct reply.

But people are trying to help, just like they do in real life, for instance when you lose stuff.Yourself and the OP are in effect, it is not any of the reader's problem either is it?
Is that the law? I'll be careless with my items if I want to and couldn't careless (excuse the pun!) about sanctimonious judgement from little keyboard warriorsIt is not OK to be careless with items ,
I've got more experience losing stuff than you, haven't I :rotfl:and yes we know sometimes items may reach their owner, however in your fantasy world you won't accept that it is just a slim chance,
After all it's "not OK" <tut tut, slow shake of head> is it?
The most likely scenario is the next passenger got into the taxi, saw the phone, handed it to the driver, who handed it in at the cab office, who put it on their lost property shelf. So if the OP contacts the taxi company there's a very good chance of getting it back.
Of course if anyone in the chain, the next passenger, the taxi driver, the staff in the cab office, is a tea leaf, then the phone is gone. But as the vast majority of people are honest, there's a very good chance of recovery. And that's my experience too as a <spit> careless person.0 -

Telling someone what they need to know not what they want to hear is more useful, yes offer the empathy vote, when my daughter has lost items, and realises the parents are not going to replace it, it has left her more careful or less careless, it's the same if something gets damaged.
Initially insurance for a new pricey handset is good, but after a few months the premium outweighs the risk and cost of replacement or repair.0 -
I would like to thank the people who have helped but not those who just answered to give snotty remarks and have a 'hidden behind their computer' argument and all this rubbish about be more careful in future as if that in anyway helpful this forum can be great for helping out but it is also full of very odd people who offer nothing except snidey remarks, poor them, must be the only bit of excitement they get in their day.0

No point throwing your teddy out of the pram, if not being careful is snidey, then why even create the thread? After all, everyone is going to fall over themselves to ensure that your son's carelessness is corrected, no need for insurance as everyone else will pick up the pieces. No need to contact the network provider as no one will make calls on the device, no need to engage the numeric passowrd or other security features.
Here is why the handset may not get used..... the new keeper may well have to get a charger, get it network unlocked, bypass any security, to somehow enable it to connect to itunes etc, there will be a cost to all of this, and hassle, perhaps for a few € more they could just buy a previously owned iphone.0 -
Suspect this thread has served its purpose, nothing short of everyone boo-hoo-ing and having a whip round to buy OP a new replacement phone s likely to satisfy.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

How is it 'rubbish" to extol the virtue of being more careful with expensive items while away from home?all this rubbish about be more careful in future as if that in anyway helpful
I assume your son doesn't live in Amsterdam and that (even if the 'phone is found) it will have to be returned to him in the UK? If that is the case, then the chances are slim that the phone will end up back in his possession.
As I said earlier, if you created this thread expecting a magic wand to be waved and the 'phone to suddenly turn up again as a result then you are sadly mistaken.
Of course it's possible the taxi driver (or one of his passengers) may have handed the 'phone to the police, but this remains the remotest possibility-not the most likely.
