Phone left in Taxi In Amsterdam

My son has been in Amsterdam for about 3 hours and jumped in a taxi to go to a Different part of the City and has left his 2 month old iphone 5 (on a 24 month contract) on the back seat. We cant ring it as its mobile network is turned off (due to being abroad) what can he do and what should he do ? thanks.

Start saving for a new one and be more careful in future is what i think he should do..
In the meantime he should report the loss to the network provider so that they can block the sim, as until that is done, the contract holder is liable for any calls made.
Years ago I found an iphone in the street in London, due to certain technical knowledge, I managed to track down the owner on facebook, and got the phone returned to a London tube station lost property, to be honest I wouldn't do it again as the owner more or less wanted me to post the item to them at my expense ! Next time I would just the leave the phone be and let somebody else find it.

    Normal questions are .
Phone insured household travel etc .
Phone has a GPS locater app active ???
    Contact the Taxi company .
As the contract is valid will need to purchase a new phone or ask the network how much it will cost to pay off the contract for the remaining 22 months .Do not stop paying this valid contract and do not stop Direct Debits .

Hi, the holiday insurance only covers single valuables up to £150 and the excess is £150.
The phone insurance only covers damage or theft.
We have logged into the Apple 'find my phone' it says the phone is online but can not be located, what does that mean exactly ?
We have phoned the network and they have blocked it so nobody can make calls on it.
We have also put it into 'lost mode'
The taxi was just one that was outside the Hotel, he didn't book it

If he remembers the name of the taxi company he can give them a ring as he might be lucky to have an honest taxi driver who would have returned it to them or he can as well chat with the receptionist at the hotel to check cctv for him to identify the taxi he took, get the plate number and contact the taxi company directly with the information, if they are helpful they will recover it for him.

    Sorry if that's too blunt.

The reason it was said (twice) is because it will only be by pure luck that your son sees hide nor hare of his 'phone ever again.

There is no magic wand to wave, best to expect nothing in the circumstance and then you won't be disappointed.

Either GPS/Network is off or no signal is reaching the phone .
Apart from the advice already given all you can do is wait and see if it shows on the tracker .

You've got a good chance of getting it back - most people are honest, contrary to popular belief. Happened to me a few times over the years with phones and other items and I've always got them back. Last time with a phone on a coach - I contacted the coach company and they found it and arranged for it to be dropped off at the local coach station where we were staying.
