    Thanks imoneyop for that advice.

I have phoned BT and they have what they call Annon Call Rejection. This takes about 48 hours to kick in, and operates for one month. When you get one of these annon calls you are able to dial a certain number afterwards to block that number from phoning your number. The next time they call they get a message stating that the number they are dialling is not accepting their calls.

Not quite what we've got, but probably works just as well. Ours totally blocks anyone calling with their ID withheld. They get a message telling them to redial without withholding the ID

They are not hanging up, but it's a computer ringing you. I.e. trying to sell you stuff. They then kick in after however many seconds. They have no idea who they are talking to half the time.

On the same vein, someone is phoning my ex-directory home number at least once every day but withholding their number. Every time it rings it rings exactly four times, and has been going on for about two weeks. You would think by now that they would get the drift that I don't answer withheld numbers ........

Also, does anyone know the number 08080000144? They keep phoning my mobile, but I'm wary of answering numbers I don't recognise.

Googling this number suggests it is a company called LBM direct Marketing.THey subscribe to TPS so in addition if you joined them, the calls should stop, dont know how long it can take though.

We are with TPS for our home telephone number but have now added my mobile number with them thanks to another person on this thread. I kind of get the feeling from the TPS that it takes about a month to take effect.

That's a great tip, thanks for looking that up for me! I wonder if there's some way to stop these calls? It's strange that the company are called Positive Response, but they always hang up when I answer, lol! I'll try and find an email addy for them and give them a piece of my mind..I'll post the addy on here if I find one. Thanks again for your help!

    Hi Lucy,

You're very welcome. I hope mine and the other chaps' advice here has helped. Make sure you bookmark that site, then next time you can be the helper. :)

To all who haven't registered to TPS, please do so, it is well worth it. We were constantly plagued by sales and 'market research' calls; a month after registering with TPS, they all stopped. The only calls we get now are the International sales calls, (which TPS can't stop) but these are very rare.

I would also recommend the Mailing Preference Service too, found here: http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

We signed up to this one and our junk mail practically disappeared; only drawback is that we now have to buy our own pens instead of having them mailed in weekly by Capital One. :rotfl:

    They call me too.

Only once did anyone speak and I just let him talk away to himself.....he got fed up and hung up.

I love to do that, too. Or pretend I'm really simple and ask lots of stupid questions in a funny voice (if I have time). It's amazing how rude some of these people are though when they ring and realise you're not interested (before you start having them on, even!!!!!!!!!). What a soul destroying job though, eh. Almost as bad as the nasty folk who ring my mum chasing payments when she's already told them ten times the CCCS are dealing with it, grrr. Takes all sorts I guess.

Don't email them and thereby give them another way onto you.
