You wont be able to obtain crime data down to that kind of level as it would identify individual victims and breach the DPA.
That's what I suspected, but I wondered if there were exceptions. A property which has been burgled is more likely to be burgled again, so I thought there might be some provision for finding out the history of a property before moving in.
I'm happy enough to just make sure we're uber-prepared for dastardly criminals by using lights, locks, etc.0 -

I specifically asked in writing as part of my conveyance. Not just the event, but suspicion it might have been attempted.
At a previous address I asked and the answer was "Yes" - he was a cafe owner and had left his takings on the table, by an open window, with no side gate... and he suspects it was kids/a friend of his kids who knew it would be there that'd just reached in and grabbed it.
If you ask, in writing, as part of the buying process, then they can be held to their word if it turns out to be untrue.... so you're more likely to get a truthful answer.0 -

We're renting, but this is worth a try. Can I assume they're not under any obligation to volunteer the information, but that they couldn't withhold it if asked directly (in writing)?0 -

When I rented where I am now I asked in writing .... and never got a reply. Then your back's against the wall as you can afford this one, you need this one ... and you can't risk somebody else getting this one
It's turned out fine .....
I think risk of burglary is one of the weak spots of renting as you're not in a position to protect yourself as you'd wish if you were a home owner. e.g. changing the glass and fitting alarms/security lighting.0 -

Agreed. I'm hoping to persuade the owner to install a light in the exterior stairwell down to the flat. The fact that the door is concealed has obviously been an issue in the past, as there is a removable metal bar bracing the door. (It's not as dungeon-like as it sounds...the current tenants use the back door to exit through the private garden. I'm hoping that my wife notices the garden more than the subterranean front entrance when she eventually views the flat.)0 -

Indeed, I would fully expect a landlord to say "no comment", or a possibly genuine "don't know". Not sure that a history of burglary proves much anyway, it sounds like there are obvious risks to this property whether it's been burgled or not.0 -
You could submit a freedom of information request via https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/
Not sure if the police are permitted to give details on individual properties but you could try. Failing that, you could ask for burglary stats for the whole street the property is located.
I believe authorities have to provide a reply within 20 working days.0 -

As explained above, they're not, so I wouldn't waste their time asking. At best you might get some statistics for the area (and of course that will only tell you what is reported to the police).0
