History of burglary

Does anyone know if it's possible to find out if a property has been burgled recently?

I viewed a basement flat this week and spotted some broken window-glass (thick, flat glass). When I asked the agent if the place had ever been burgled, he claimed that it must be a broken wine glass.

It would be useful to know before I start getting insurance quotes.

    Police.uk ?

It is done by postcode but gives crime stats by month.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately Police.uk doesn't cover Scotland.

It may not be possible to be as specific as I'd like to be, but it was worth a shot.

    You could ask the neighbours?

Most police forces have email/social media accounts. Maybe ask if there is an equivalent to police.uk ?

If we're talking about a crime in the last week it won't be on there yet. Also not all calls to the police end up as "crimes" so police.uk isn't always a fair representation anyway.

We don't have crime maps in Scotland.

    :) or the current tenants.

I didn't have time after the viewing and it's an hour's drive away from where we are just now, so I was hoping for a quick web search/phone call instead.

I hadn't thought of that. Good idea!

You wont be able to obtain crime data down to that kind of level as it would identify individual victims and breach the DPA.
