I cannot believe she wouldn't have someone in place to cover her absence - to do otherwise risks professional misconduct issues.

Look - she's having a baby, not having a hysterectemy.

Women have babies all the time oherwise we wouldn't be here and this forum would be populated entirely by aliens.

I'm sure she'll be able to sit up in bed in a ward somewhere and ensure Completion takes place.

Some women are fine and some are knocked for six, and you don't know which you'll be. However the worst case scenario is that nothing happens for 10 days, which could happen with anyone in a sole practice getting sick, having an accident or going on holiday. So your buyers won't want to lose a ready, willing and able buyer who's delayed 10 days or less through no fault of their own.

    I agree.

I also thought that lenders wouldn't deal with one partner practices, could it be that she has passed the mortgage work on to a bigger firm.

I think it reasonable to ask what she has put in place to ensure your transaction proceeds.

No mortgage involved & we have asked, answer is that she'll log in a week after induction date to complete everything but I think that's not possible to guarantee.

Ask if her maternity cover can start early? It's quite unprofessional to leave you waiting, trusting that she will be able to complete so soon after giving birth.

    Have you used her previously?

    Sensible suggestion.

If she's being induced anyway, then tell he to bring this forward by a month or so to meet your Completion schedule.

I still think it's unprofessional of her not to have backup in place (or at least not to reassure you that backup will be in place).

That just won't happen! Medical professionals will not induce a baby earlier to meet the mother's convenience or, even worse, the mother's client's convenience.

She is being highly unprofessional, and tbh sounds like a first time mum without the slightest idea of how an induced birth (or normal birth) could impact on her. Inducements can go on for days, the drip they give you automatically gives you more painful contractions, and you are more likely to need medical intervention - i.e. forceps or a section. I was induced. It started at 9am on a Monday, baby born 11pm Tuesday, didn't sleep for three days. This is common. Even if its more straight forward, she will be majorily sleep deprived at the very least, and your transaction will probably be the last thing on her mind with a screaming baby demanding feeds every 30 mins or so.

Do you really want someone in this position handling such an important transaction? Get another solicitor.

I think G_M was referring to the maternity cover, not the induction.

    Nope. The induction.

But granted it was one of my obscure tongue-in-cheek suggestions.....
