Gas Boiler + 7 Radiators for £699?

Options
Has anyone had any experience with: http://www.mrcentralheating.com/

They have a boiler and 7 radiators for £699 all in. Is it worth it?

We are living in a 3 bed end terrace house that I am doing up to sell in 6 months or so - so this would help us keep the project within budget (and it only needs to last for the time we live there!).

At that price would the boiler (or others on the site) be any good?

There is nothing wrong with the boiler or radiators except that it is illegal to install the boiler in 99.9% of properties in England. This is due to it being a standard efficiency one and not of the condensing variety.

The boilers don't know the law, though most installers should ;)

Good evening: The £699 package is non-condensing... your CORGI engineer is required by building regulations to install condensing boilers except under very limited circumstances. See http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/uploads/documents/housingbuildings/ce30.pdf for more info on the specification and installation requirements of gas central heating systems. Visit www.trustcorgi.com to find an installer near you.

As is often the case on MSE, people type responses at the same time to the same post...mine had two links and a bit more info hence the time difference (3 minutes to be precise). :D I don't feel the need to duplicate other's opinions as I can generate my own ideas.

    Hello ChuckleVision

I'll move your thread to the 'Is This Fair?' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. • Not sure why the post has been moved. This is really a DIY/home improvement question - I am not asking if anything is fair.

Anyway, my plan is to fit all the radiators myself, use my circular saw to cut planks out of the chip board - then get a gas man to fit the boiler and pipes.

The site does have condensing boilers - you just have to pay extra.

Are these boilers any good? http://www.mrcentralheating.com/condensing.html
  • Further to my moved post (here) can anyone advise me on condensing boilers?

Are these boilers any good? The price is £699 for radiators plus the boiler price on here: http://www.mrcentralheating.com/condensing.html

Also do I get copper or plastic pipes?

    Hello ChuckleVision

In your original post, you said:

In response to your question 'Not sure why the post has been moved'...........this 'Is This Fair' board has the description:

If you've been given a quote but aren't sure how it compares note it here. Other MoneySavers (and hopefully professionals in the trade) will tell you what they think.

I agree that if you've missed reading the above description, the board title 'Is This Fair' might not seem the best place for your thread.

The board title could be made clearer if it was amended to read something like...........'Home improvement quote - is this fair?';)

We used these. You get copper pipes. We had some left over and I got the plumber to bend one so I can make a curtain pole.:rotfl: Delivered on time and no problems.

It's actually trading as Ultimate Heating now. Perfectly good company selling a huge variety of boilers. All radiators, copper, fittings etc are all to relevant British Standards.

I buy about 60 boilers a year from them.
