Mobile phone for a 7 year old

An 11 yo is far more mature compared to one aged 7. Also, as it is a contract the usage may be capped, but the expectation is an adult is using it, so adult sites will be fully accessible, unless the parental services lock is correctly applied.
For many, PAYG saves on many tears when it all goes wrong. Why does any child need a line of credit to use a handset?0 -
Thanks for the replies,
I agree, I would never normally want her to have a mobile at this age.
Her mum is very difficult and Skype 'never' works on the PC or phone and outside of 30 mins a week on her phone does not allow contact.
The phone means I can speak more often and do hangouts so she can see her little brother.
PAYG sounds ideal, its what is I thought but just wanted to double check as I know tesco did capped etc.
Finally on Android I would put a custom launcher on and lock the phone down so that she did not have free reign on it.0 -
If you decide to go the Tesco route, have a quick read:

I agree, but sounds like OP is in a bit of a situation that some of us aren't in, so best to have all options laid out I guess.

Bro gave his son a mobile phone to keep in touch as mum was being difficult re phone calls. You'd be surprised how often the phone had run out of charge, or there was no signal, or they'd gone away for a few days and "forgotten" it.
At that age, if mum is wanting to make contact difficult, a mobile phone isn't necessarily going to help. A 7 year old not wanting to upset a parent is not going to be insisting if mum says no.
The only advantage he could see was that when son did finally get the phone back, he could see that dad had been sending texts and photos and hadn't forgotten him. (Although a more awkward parent may also decide to delete these.)All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Thanks Elsien,
Yep that's my worry but at least she can text me too.
It's going through court and the phone is part of what I'm selling for on the contact order.
Just being able to see her weekly and her being able to see her brother would be a step forward.0 -
I wish you the best of luck with it all @mro85

Can alo cap it with TM too and add on extra data as well.0 -
Just a thought ....
Would she be able to use wifi at home?
If so then she could easily have a phone with no sim card. Then she will still be able to whatsapp and (Probably) use hangouts?
Also skype etc.
No risk of costs to a big phone bill as it comes out of the wifi allowance.
Edit: Just wanted to say good luck with the contact order, hope you get what you want and it gets sticked too!“Time is intended to be spent, not saved” - Alfred Wainwright0 -
I use 'Viber' App for FREE calls when both phones are on free Wifi0
