If you want to use a Prepaid card, consider Kalixa Pay obtained via MoneySupermarket. Can't be beaten for purchases. Has a flat rate for cash withdrawals, so take out reasonably large chunks.
ATMs in Japan operated by Japan Post Bank, Seven Bank and Citibank Japan allow you to withdraw cash with MasterCard-, Maestro- or Cirrus-branded cards. Please refer to an ATM locator tool or bank branch information at their websites: Citibank: ✶https://www.citibank.co.jp/en/banking/branch_atm/pdf/atm.pdf
Japan Post Bank: ⤢https://www.jp-bank.japanpost.jp/en/ias/en_ias_index.html
Seven Bank(outside 7-Eleven®) : http://www.sevenbank.co.jp/english/0 -
I went to Tokyo and cards were not widely accepted and there are not many ATM's. I took cash and a card as backupI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I would estimate there are more than 43,000 ATMs that allow you to use a foreign card.
24000 between Post Bank and CitiBank and 19,000 from Seven Bank.0
