If I knew all the answers then I would earn a 6 figure wage as a consultant to the Dept for ed.
    :rotfl:

Seriously, if you THOUGHT about the questions then some of the answers would be more obvious.
I read my email every two hours and that is just natural.
No, that is obsessive to most people with a life.
People less used to email don't like it.
Some people used to email don't LIKE it, but see it as a necessary evil.
If schools are serious over inter school and parent communication then it has to deploy some of its staff to this end which ever method it employs.
 I thought we'd already established that schools were now using a range of methods, BUT your suggestion that the head should be deployed to send emails was one of the funniest suggestions you've ever made!
I accept a lot of kids have rubbish parents who are not that bothered, which is sad and I accept punishment for parents' failure is not good.
So, since you're never going to be able to punish children for NOT bringing back signed notes proving they've handed information over, can we please forget that idea?

Actually, even with things that matter, my sons' school only seems to go through the motions with this one. End of year reports, for example, we're supposed to sign and send back a chit, but even when I don't I've never had anyone from school phone or write to check we received it. But they are posting out the 'overdue coursework' demands, finally! Just too late to be useful ...
Planner signing is a joke past year 7 in every school I have known.
So why would dealing with letters in the same way be any different? And we haven't even started on the "How many of you used to forge your parents' signature when you needed to?" debate.
All I am saying is employing new technology like text and email and online is a low cost, if not low time, method of strengthing communication with parents. I accept it is flawed but as is so much.
The new technology is only useful for parents with access to it. As such, each school must make a decision in this inclusive age about how to proceed. In some areas they may rightly judge that most families WILL have a home computer, but they must continue to make provision for those who don't.

Plus you're forgetting that staff cost money. If it's not low time, it's not low cost.

So email and technology is a bad idea given all the drawbacks over access. The return of letters can be forged and it is a pain to have to check all the returns off and it is unfair to punish kids over this as it might be their parents fault. I accept that staff time costs a lot to do something that on the face of it is cheap. So what is the solution to better school communication then other than nagging parents and hounded kids?

Yep!! They are the only bag to be seen with a DD school. Nothing in the shop I really liked enough to spend money on and DD too young for the stuff in there. DD really wanted a bag and don't want her to stand out as the kid who doesn't have one. So off to get my money back!!
