    Next moan/rant.

Do they appreciate the effort? NO.

But at least I know what tea does to cloth, so I'm glad I don't drink it ;)

No, I don't think they do appreciate it... I think they think we're all bored out of our brains and dying to start panicing over brown shirts and fancy dress and the like. Honestly, I hate teachers me.

My youngest has a home/school diary for me to write messages, news etc in for the teacher, and for the teacher to do the same. Last week I wrote in the diary on Tuesday 'does she need anything in particular for sports day tomorrow?' Answer: 'yes - the theme is pirates so some kind of pirate costume' (bearing in mind she doesn't come home until around 5pm and leaves for school at 7.50am)....!!!!!!????? Managed to botch something together though.

Tomorrow, the whole school is having a 'rainbow carnival' and each class is doing a different colour - her class has orange as their colour. Today she has come home without her diary but informed me that she needs an orange t-shirt for tomorrow! AAAARRRGGGH!!! Her class couldn't have had a colour of something she already owns could it? No, of course not! So a quick trip to Asda and I managed to get an orange t-shirt (from the boys section with 'Stevens Haulage written across it ) for £1.50....that she will never wear again!

Bit late, but you could soak it in tea. Or boil onion skins?I think.

Anyhoo, I know what you mean. Sports day on Tuesday. Monday, off spring inform me they need yellow T shirts, as that's their team colour. 1.5 hours trying to find ruddy yellow T shirts in 3 sizes.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

White shirts are dull anyway. At least a brown shirt has personality.

If kids don't give you notes, why dont you just look in their bag?

They don't always put them in their bags. Anyway, once they reach a certain age their bags are a health hazard ... if I went through DS'3s I dread to think what I would find among the heaps of paper.

DS3 keeps notes in his trouser pocket, folded small. Frisking him is not an option now he's bigger than me. Fortunately I know what's what (after all these years I should do!) so even though I never saw the note about Sports Day I knew it was non-uniform. He's also supposed to wear his house colour (yellow) but that's not compulsory, so we didn't go there.

Anyway, the point is that the notes don't always get sent home when they should. School has taken to posting letters to me about outstanding coursework, but even so they date it, then wait a week before posting, and by the time I see it the coursework is due in on the next school day. VERY helpful!

Sue, I have never got why schools don't send an email out parents with newsletter info on. That would by pass the kids and it could go direct to parents and its free.

I take your point that schools need to be more proacticve than reactive, but school fear parents for some reason, least high schools do, and that makes them worse at reporting things until they are mega bad.

It is a bad male habit to chuck all your papers in the bag and then you can not find them when you want them.

Actually Phil that is exactly what my DS's school does, sort of. He hasn't started yet, starts Sept, but they have a website and they post all the notes that they send out on there as well.
I live in my own little world, but it's ok as everyone knows me here :)

Phil my children go to a secondary school with about 1600 students, they don't read emails, let alone send them.

bethom, the school also has a website, but for that to work parents would have to have net access, amaxing how many don't and would have to check every day, just in case. Don't think that would happen.

Just think how easy it would be to send the attachment of letters in an email. I know the problem is there if you don't have email but many people have a work email if not a personal one.
