Hi, I bought a £9.99 DVD from your xxxxx branch last week for a present, yet when I took it out the bag last night to wrap it up was not at all happy to see that despite the fact the sticker on the DVD was £9.99, the assistant asked me for £9.99, my receipt states £9.99, I was actually charged £10 for this, as can be seen on the actual credit card “cardholder copy” payment receipt (see attached photograph, and below).

< SORRY CAN'T SHARE PHOTO >

This was also confirmed when I checked my online banking, I have been charged £10.

This is fraud and I will also contact my local trading standards department, so why are customers secretly being charged MORE for a purchase and not being informed that “actually this £9.99 purchase will really cost you £10”????

I am not fussed over a 1p refund, it is the principle and illegality of an item being displayed for £9.99 (or whatever amount), the customer being asked for £9.99 by the assistant, being given a receipt for £9.99, yet also tucked behind that receipt is a “cardholder copy” payment receipt showing the actual price charged was £10.00 - without the customer knowing.

Any opinion/advice anyone - please?

Sounds more likely to be a computer glitch than fraud. Their software processes the value as double or other relevant format then sends data to card terminal as integer and its automatically rounded.

I wouldn't have wasted any amount of time pursuing a complaint of fraud or theft, if it was they make about a pound per day. Risk:reward ratio simply not there

Have you actually spoken to the shop? It could have been a mistake, or was there a £10 minimum shop to use your card?

Personally I wouldn't care, I would not lose sleep over 1p.

Because you paid by card, what was displayed on the card terminal when you keyed in your pin code? More a case of your fault for not checking at the time..

for a penny is it worth your time or our time to argue over.... always check what your putting your pin code in to pay for!..
  • Dudley Do-Right I'm serious.

It's not about being overcharged 1 bloody pence - it's the mis-selling of goods.

They might have everything at x pounds and 99 pence so outdo the local competitor who may charge everything at exactly £10 etc, so getting the custom, then they charge you £10 anyway.

Nah, not getting involved in any arguments on here or come here to get ridiculed.

Just asking for opinion as it is blatant mis-selling, and they (That's Entertainment) still haven't replied.

    £9.99 is just that, £9.99.
    £10 is £10.

What if you bought 3x £9.99 DVDs = £29.97, would you have been charged £30 on your actual credit card “cardholder copy” payment receipt? Despite them telling you it's £29.97 please, and that's on the DVD receipt you get given.

Wow, just wow. Nothing more constructive to do with your time?

Why accept the amount by entering your PIN?
